Kim,
I've gone through all of the info you sent and hard as I try I can't come up
with a single connection. GRRRRRRR.
I thought I might could with the TN line but I don't have enough info on the
sons of Matthew Cox, of Wilkes Co. NC, who moved into TN and on out west to
show any possible links. All of my lines on both sides of the Cox-Cagle
family stayed in the Carolina's until recently, Sorry,
Eddie

Hi, Eddie et al.
No, I don't think we did discuss the Cox line in regard to Cagles,
although I know we have corresponded before. It's interesting; the
Cox part of my family history (my mother's maiden name was Cox) has
always been problematic in terms of trying to take it back to the
first immigrant. I made some headway a couple of years ago when a
distant cousin found me online and informed me of a document written
by a Thomas Sylvander Cox in the early 1900's, and this Thomas
Sylvander Cox, otherwise known as T.S. Cox, was my great grandfather
James Monroe Cox's brother.
Here is what I know:
Edward Cox dob abt 1758, Scotland (unproven; this fact provided by his
great grandson, T.S. Cox). Settled in Edgefield South Carolina.
Spouse?
John Cox dob abt 1801 South Carolina death abt 1858 spouse Letitia
Calfee Married 1820 Cook or Cocke Co. Tenn
Edward Cox dob 11 Jul 1831 Tennessee death ? spouse Missouri Jane
Smith married 1850 near Madisonville, Tenn
James Monroe Cox dob 3 Dec 1853 Hillsboro Illinois death 12 Aug 1917
spouse Ida Nettie Cagle (also called Martha I. Cagle on the census)
married 1889 in Arkansas
William McKinley Cox dob 20 Nov 1895 Srpingdale, Washington County,
Ark died 1 May 1981 spouse Gladys Irene King married in Visalia,
Tulare County, Calif
Shirley E. Cox dob 5 July 1929 death 2 April 1991 spouse Jack Wesley
Townsend married 1946 Manteca Calif
I am the above couple's youngest daughter. Ida Nettie Cagle, also
called Martha Ida Cagle, was born to Joseph C. Cagle (also spelled
Kagle in the family Bible) and Emma Dotson, on 1 Jun 1877 in Westfork
Arkansas. Her siblings were Edward F. , Laura Ann, George M., Jessie,
and Della. Unfortunately I have no info on any of them. At the age
of 12 in 1889, Ida Nettie was married to James Monroe Cox who was 24
years older than she; he was 36 at time of marriage. They married in
Arkansas, and had 7 children. He died in 1917, and Ida was still
relatively young at age 40; she remarried 4 more times. She died in
1965, and I had the opportunity of knowing her when I was a very young
girl and she was very old.
When I visited Jonathan Creek, North Carolina, I was struck by what a
small, dark "hollar" in the North Carolina woods it was. I don't know
when Joseph Cagle and wife Emma Dotson Cagle moved from North Carolina
to Arkansas; but Joseph Cagle is in the Roster of Haywood County,
North Carolina Civil War Soldiers. Joseph and Emma married in 1871,
and can be found in the 1880 census for Washinton County, Arkansas as
Kagle. According to the family Bible, he taught school after he came
home from the war, and eventually had to quit because he became
blind. I believe the family was very poor - probably destitute - and
the younger daughters were married off young to help the family survive.

Hi Kim,
I recall we corresponded some time ago, but did we talk about your
Cox's?
Mine moved out of Wilkes county NC and ended up in Greenville county
SC. My
John Cox married Nancy Cagle, d/o Leonard Cagle of Henderson/
Transylvania
county NC.
Do you know if your Cox line comes from Wilkes or Caldwell county
NC? Maybe
descended from Matthew Cox who died in Wilkes Co. around 1804?
If we already covered this I apologize. I've had several computer
problems
and have lost many of my notes on who I have discussed things with,
and my
memory has problems too. <grin>
Regards,
Eddie Cox

Hi, all. I usually do not post, but saw an opportunity to jump in.
Karl Wilhelm Cagle is my ancestor, through his son John and John's
wife Lucy; then Henry (Catherine Holder), , Joseph C. (Emma Dotson),
and finally Joseph's daughter, Ida Nettie Cagle who married James
Monroe Cox. Ida Nettie Cagle Cox's son was William McKinley Cox, my
grandfather. Several ancestors lived in Jonathan Creek, Haywood,
North Carolina; I visited there about 2 years ago, didn't find any
info.
