Dear List,
Some places on the internet have our ancestor Lenhart Kegell's, name transcribed as
Hegell.
This is to be expected because the original transcription has it as Hegell.
However, as we know it was Leonhart ( and other variations ) Kegell. Looking at a copy of
the
original list that a member sent me I see the name to be Kegell.
I have gone on line and looked at German Alphabets and hand writing and a K can be
mistaken
for an H. His name being on a land grant in Philadelphia, Kegel, Leonard 17 Oct 1737
confirms our ancestor's arrival.
As I have said before this is only 5 years after his arrival. He didn't just fall off
the back of a wagon and
suddenly appear in Philadelphia.
So for those that think a Mr. Hegell from Germany arrived on 25 Sep 1732 take that.
His name on the land patent was spelled the way our Cagle, name is spelled in Germany
today, Kegel.
Regards,
Earl D.Cagle Sr.
