Subject: [CAGLE] Henry Cagle Haywood County, NC
Dear List,
While looking online at old newspapers I found the following :
The Morristown Gazette 1867 - 1920
5 Nov 1879 Morristown Hamblen County, Tennessee
We have been creditable informed that during the recent freshet one Henry
Cagle, 80 years old, was crossing
Johnithans Creek in Haywood County, N C. on Friday the 17 inst and falling
from the foot-log was washed 4 miles below,
where he was found. His body was badly bruised, and his coat and vest tore
off by drift trash. he was found on the
3rd day of his death, and buried on the 4th. day. He was 80 years old the
day of his death, - Newport Reporter
Not knowing what a Freshet was I got help online.
Definition from Wikipedia online : The term "freshet" is most commonly used
to describe a spring thaw resulting from
snow and ice melt in rivers located in the northern latitudes of North
America, particularly Canada.
A spring freshet can sometimes last several weeks on large river systems,
resulting in significant inundation of flood
plains as the snow pack melts in the river's catchment area.
With out checking records I am unaware of who this Henry Cagle is. Using my
perpetual calendar and the notation at
the bottom of this article, he was born October 17,1799 and died October 17,
1879 in Haywood County, NC.
If he is your family member then I hope this helps your research.
Regards,
Earl D. Cagle Sr.
The best part of genealogy is finding new family members you didn't know you
have.
