Hello List,
I found some more information on Finis Ewing Cagle, and his family. Besides the
1900 census enumeration for Finis, in Ketchikan, Alaska, there is a seperate
listing for his family. They were listed in Fort Wrangel Southern Alaska
Territory. He had two sons listed along with his wife. Charles C. Cagle b.
2-1885 born in Missouri. They also had Lawrence F. Cagle b. 6-1894 in Alaska.
Finis brother Charles N. Cagle, was listed with them also. His occupation in
Missouri was a farmer, and in Alaska he was a prospector. Finis Cagle's
occupation in Missouri was a teacher, and in Alaska a tin smith. I was also able
to find a death record for his wife. Her name was Virginia Ann Cagle, her madien
name was Godwin, not Goodwin as many people had listed. Her date of death was
5-14-1939 in Seattle King County, Washington. Her age was listed as 83 years 2
months 18 days. Using an online birth date calculator her date of birth was
2-26-1856. Her father was James Godwin, and her mother was Seletha Bridges. On
Charles C. Cagle's, death record it gave his year of birth only 1885. According
to the 1900 census he was born 2-1885 in Missouri. I couldn't find him in the
social security death index. I did find his brother Lawrence F. Cagle, who was
born 6-17-1894 in Alaska. He died on 9-15-1970 in Clackamas County, Oregon.
Using the Wordconnect information it says James Sparkman Godwin was b. 5-11-1814
in Tennessee. His wife Siletha Bridges, was born 11-1825 in Tennessee. I found
their marriage record using Family Search data base of records. They married on
8-11-1842 in Maury County, Tennessee.
There is more information to be learned on this family but this covers all of
the main data.
Take Care,
Earl
