William Cagle, b. 1811, oldest child of Charles Cagle and Polly Demonbreun, later became
the head of the Cagle families which were in Cheatham County, Tennessee in the 1860-1900
era. The Cagles of Cheatham County, TN are a remnant of the family of John Cagle Sr b.
1740s-1826 who migrated from Cabarrus Co., NC to Davidson Co., about 1800.
Cheatham county was formed in 1856 from Davidson, Dickson and Montgomery counties and it
is possible that part or all of the Cagles listed in the census of Davidson for 1820
through 1850 were actually living in what is now Cheatham county. Some members of this
family group also, lived in adjoining Robertson county at various times. It would seem
that William Cagle who headed the Cagles of Cheatham in the 1860 and 1870s was the
grandson of John Cagle, d. 1826, had already left the Cheatham/Davidson area in the 1820s
and 1830s with a large group of them settling in Christian and Williamson counties,
Illinois. Others are known to have migrated to Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas and Texas.

Is anyone familiar with William Cagle of Tennessee, who may have married
Catherine Proctor. His dates are circa 1804-1880+ and he may have had 15
children.
Is there any possibility that the name of his wife was not Proctor, but
Puckett???
Mary Ann
