Kim,
The Eli you are referring to was the illegitimate son of Mancini Huneycutt whom George
made provisions for in
his will. George was soon murdered by Huneycutt's husband who was later murdered by
another man.

HI, Pam - I re-read your daughter's posts from 2000 to this list; my impression was
that she was immediately blown off and steered to a different list. I spent a bit of time
looking for her Henry Thomas Cagle, and here is what I found:
1. North Carolina Birth Index: his birth record - born Sept. 12, 1930 in Carthage, Moore
Co., NC. Parents: William Cagle and Bell Shaw:
http://search.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbid=8783&iid...
Thomas&ln=Cagle&st=r&ssrc=&pid=4137912
2. A photo of Henry Thomas Cagle with his sons, Mike and Stan:
http://trees.ancestry.com/pt/ViewPhoto.aspx?tid=7212033&pid=-11410096...
3. April 4, 1930 Carthage, NC Census with William Cagle (father; born abt 1868-1869) and
Bell (mother) of Henry Thomas Cagle (he wasn't born yet), along with children James,
Rosa and Richard. Along the side of this family, are the words "Married Twice";
so Bell, mother of Henry Thomas Cagle, was William's second spouse as we will see in
the 1910 census.
http://search.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbid=6224&iid...
4. 1920 Carthage, NC Census with William Cagle (born abt 1870-1871) as Head of House,
Bell as spouse, and children Arthur, Letitia, Esther, Helen and James.
http://search.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbid=6061&iid...
5. 1910 Carthage, NC Census with Bill Cagle (born abt. 1871) as Head of House, Florence,
spouse; Children: George A., William, Tishie M. (Letitia), and Esther.
http://search.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbid=6061&iid...
6. 1880 Big Lick Township, N.C.census with Eli Cagle as Head of House (born abt. 1826)
and spouse Hannah; children: Evey (?) J., Mary A., Giles, Rachel and William, (born abt.
1871-1872).
Still looking for this family in the 1890 and 1900 census in or near Carthage, N.C. In
each census, race is "black"and in consecutive census records it states that
William born abt 1869-1873 worked in a saw mill. Also, in each census from 1910 through
1930, a Shaw family (which was the last name of Henry Thomas Cagle's mother Bell Shaw,
according to the birth record) lives very near to these Cagles.
I found some records stating that Eli Cagle was the son of George Cagle of Big Lick,
Stanly, NC and Nancy Hinson. (George's 2nd wife). Not sure if this is the right trail
- other Cagle researchers could correct me from here on down to Leonhart Cagle, the
immigrant - but here is what I found on George Cagle of Big Lick, Stanly, NC, from the
following link:
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/j/o/n/Mary-E-Cagle/GENE11-0058...
218. GEORGE4 CAGLE (CHARLES ROBERT3, GEORGE2, LEONHART (KEGEL)1) was born 1813 in Stanly
County, North Carolina, and died February 27, 1888 in Big Lick, Stanly County, North
Carolina. He married (1) ELIZABETH ROSA WHITLEY 1833 in Stanly County, North Carolina. She
was born Abt. 1812, and died Abt. 1857. He married (2) NANCY JANE HINSON January 04, 1853
in Stanly County, North Carolina, daughter of CHARLES HINSON and MILEA CLARK. She was born
1825 in Stanly County, North Carolina, and died WFT Est. 1862-1920.
So, your daughter is a descendant of the same Leonhart Kagle/Cagle who emigrated from
Germany, and is a distant cousin to all of us as we are to her and each other!
All of this was fairly easy for me to research on line and in
Ancestry.com. I am sorry
your daughter was blown off so quickly in 2000 (I wasn't a member of the list then)
and wasn't helped more.
Sincerely, Kim Townsend Spangrude
