As a service to my Cagle mail list I pass along,
a few tips.
As you all know by now, my home state is Missouri.
The Missouri State Archves, published a very good
resource book. This book lists all the counties and addresses. Then it
also shows what records
are avaliable.
Missouri has 114 counties. The first counties were
organized in 1812 and the last in 1861.
The City of St.Louis became a seperate governing
entity from St.Louis County in 1876.
The oldest counties in Missouri formed on 10-01-1812: Cape Girardeau,
New Madrid, St.Charles, St.Louis, and St.Genevieve.
In my second post on this subject tomorrow, I will
include contact information.
Also some records that are avaliable, that for my
part I never knew existed.
These are records that will perhaps give you data,
you other wise wouldn't have.
As a young boy growing up I recall my dad, mention
"Poor Farms". These I had wondered about from
time to time. Never knowing there was even such a
place. Well folks, they did exist and were a cold hard fact of life. So
a dicussion on these will be one
of my topics.
