For the second part of my post, here is one rescource I wrote of last
night.
Under the County Ward book, this lists county
institutions. County poor farms, being one that
there are records for. This of course, is just one
example of institutions, run by a county.
Back years ago, I heard phrases such as "Home
for wayward girls". and "Home for wayward boys".
These, were a prelude for juvinile detention
centers. This also covered adult custody records.
So in effect, these are records to consider.
For the state of Missouri, these cover pre-1940.
The amount and type of records kept by some
counties, is rather remarkable.
Until I received my copy of "A Guide to County
and Municipal Records on Microfilm", I had never
heard of some of the records kept.
Although, I can't speak for other states, I would
think they would have similar publications.
These as a guide, are very helpful in genealogical
research.

One thing to consider also, is the different records
kept. Some counties may have them, and some not.
The period of time for some counties records. vary
also.

county, may contact me. This way if you are looking
for a certain record, you can find out if they have it.
Plus when indicatd, the years the records cover.
