The message from LaMona Phillips hits my Cagle line. I am descended from
William C. Cagle (abt 1754) and Mary "Barrett" Cagle (abt 1759), through
their son John Cagle born 1802 in Moore County, NC. John Cagle married
Phereby (Feruby) Rogers, 22 Feb 1827 in Blount County, TN. Their daughter,
Phereby "Ferbie Lee" Cagle, born 05 Aug 1845 in TN, was my g-grandmother.
She married Stephen Decator Saffell 05 Aug 1863 in TN. His parents were
James Saffell and Mary "Polly" Webb (daughter of Larkin Webb). So, I have
Cagles, Saffells and Webbs in this line.
Do these Cagles and Webb families fit in with the ones mentioned in the
lawsuit - Phereby Cagle Bain and Newton Webb? More research necessary
here.
I hope a lot of information is generated on this line of the Cagle family,
as I am still very confused with a lot of the information I have. I believe
the information I obtained from LDS records is really all mixed up. It
shows, William and Mary had the following children:
John b. 1802 in Moore County, NC
William b. 1802 in Moore County, NC
George b. 1812 in Moore County, NC
James b. 1813 in Moore County, NC
Jesse b. 1814 in Moore County, NC
Ishem (Isea) b. 1815 in Moore County, NC
Phereby b. 1816 in Moore County, NC
Greenberry b. 1820 in Moore County, NC
O.K. - I can buy the first two children listed born in 1802. William would
have been 48 years of age and Mary would have been 43 years of age.
Then - a lapse of 10 years - no children? Starting in 1812 (ages 58 and 53)
six more children, ending with Greenberry born in 1820 (mother and father
ages would be 61 and 66).
I have to agree with others that some of these children must belong to
someone else, possibly William Cagle Jr.
Also, if Mary and William were married in 1787, he would have been 33 years
old and she would have been 28. This would certainly allow time for either,
or both of them, to have been married before. And, if they were married in
1787, were there no children born prior to William and John in 1802?? This
sounds a bit odd too.
Does anyone have a "complete & correct" list of the children of William C.
Cagle and Mary "Barrett" Cagle? If so, I would really appreciate a copy of
it.

Hi!! this is LaMona I have been busy doing my Cagle AQ program. Sorry!!!
I have William C. Cagle, born abt 1754 using the 1850 Sevier Co. census as
a
guide line, and Mary abt 1759 using the 1850 census. I don't
think
Feriby/Fereby etc.=Fereby was married until 5 Nov 1851 Monroe Co., TN to
William Bain, census date abt 1815 Randolph Co., Mr. John G. Cagle has
William her father on the Tax list at this time. Input from other Cagles
jump in) Now here is a real dinger.
This page was sent to me by Mr. John G. Cagle, Little Rock AR
Chancery Court Records of McMinn County, TN. issue 1980 p. 227 What book??
#1240 Fereby Bain vs George Cagle filed 29 June 1892. Fereby, near age 75,
is the widow of late William Bain who died in Polk Co. some eight or ten
years ago without children and who was a pensioner. She was persuaded to go
live with Cagle, son of her brother, who promised to look after her. Some
nine months ago because of starvation she went to live with Newton Webb.
She
charges that she never saw her pension money of $124 per year, but
that
Cagle used it to build a fine dwelling house. Suit for return of $800 to
$1200 pension money which Cagle used. Cagle answered that it is not true
that Bain died without heirs, that Ferraby was brought to his house by her
stepson, that part of the time she lived with his brother Martin Cagle.
Case
compromised by Cagle paying $40. Here is a marriage someone copied
on
this
page NOTE: Newton Webb m. July 8, 1869 to Elizabeth Cagle no County
gave
for
the marriage. Sorry I did not look up in the 1860 census to see where
Freaby
etc. was living to see if she had any step children. LaMona
