Nancy Jane,
I have read the same account somewhere. I didn't believe it then and still
don't. Unless they had to be in New Orleans for some reason, they traveled
through hostile territory perhaps as much as 2000 miles to get from NC to Warren
Co., TN when it was probably less than 200 miles away as the crow flies. The
French Broad River flows out of the Ashville NC area through Knoxville TN and
with the Holston, forms the Tennessee River at that point However, your boat
might bounce on some of those big rocks over around Ashville and through the
Smoky Mountains.

This is just a short note I found in John G. Cagle's book
Valentine 1750, & Jacob 1755. the two brothers moved to from North Carolina
to Tennesse in 1812 the trip was made overland , through the Gap of the
Appalachian Mountins from Charleston, South Carolina to New Orleans, LA. and
then to Mississippi and then Tennessee rivers to Warren County, Tennessee.
