List:
I too, had Catarana Sietz as the wife of Henry. I note John's wife was
Catharina, a slight
difference is spelling. Could it be that these are two separate people.
It would not be
the first time that Cagle brothers married sisters.
I quote from the "Cagle Journal of Historical Inquiry, Oct 1999 Issue p.
11.
"Judging from the 1799 Will of John Cagle, filed in Moore Co., NC, which
names his wife Catharina and ten children, and from the known birthdates
of these children, which range from the 1750s to the 1790s, it is evident
that John must have been married twice. However, it remains unclear if
the daughter of Dorotha Elizabeth Sides to whom he was married at the
time of the 1770 Power of Attorney, was his first wife or his second
wife. One possibility is that he first married a Miss Sides (given name
unknown), who was the mother of his younger set of children, who were
still minors at the time of his 1799 will. A second possibility is that
John was married first to Johanetta Hart in Pennsylvania in 1754, and
soon migrated to North Carolina, where he began to appear in NC records
in 1755, on the Tax List of old Orange Col, NC. After the birth of
children Jacob, Elizabeth, George and Mary in the 1750s and 1760s, she
died at an unknown date, after which John was married to CVatharina
"Caty" Sides, daughter of Dorotha Elizabeth Sides. Catharina, if this
theory is correct, was married to John by 1770, and was the mother of his
six youngest children, Henry, Susanna, John, William, Dorety, and
Margaret, the last five of which were still minors in 1799. It might be
speculated that two of these children -- Henry and Dorety (Dorothy) --
were named after John Henry Sides and Dorotha Elizabeth Sides, parents of
Catharina."
What do you think, do you think these may be two different Sides girls?
John G. Cagle, is currently in the process of completing a continuing
article on "The Cagle
Records of Old Cumberland County, North Carolina, 1764 - 1784. Perhaps,
all this will be
cleared up in future issues of The Cagle Journal.

Mary Ann,
I thought so, too. However, John "Dutchman" Cagle's will of 1799
lists
his children
which does not include Leonard Cagle.
Additionally, do you have a source for the wife of John "Dutchman"
whom
you indicate
is Catherine "Caty" Cookman. Is it possible that John had three
wives?
One is thought
to be Johanetta Hart, this is based on a church record in Oley Twp,
Berks
Co., PA indicating a John Kegel marriage on 25 Dec 1754. The other
wife
is thought to be Catharina Seitz, (end snip)
The information I have is:
1. Caterena SEITZ married Henry CAGLE, b. abt. 1830, son of Leonard
Kagel, b.
1684.
2. Catherine "Caty" Cookman looks to me like Caterana Cagle,
(daughter of
Henry Cagle and Caterena Seitz), who married Joseph COCKMAN. (this
is my line)
Perhaps I have missed some new information about the above - could
someone
help me out with these VERY confusing early Cagles?
Thanks so much
