(By the 1880 census-time , Benjamin and Anna Cook Cagle , had three Children
Edna, Clara and Benjamin Jackson. Benjamin supported himself by the 1880
census -time , by Farming part time of the year and conducting Penmanship
School the other part. While off teaching in tennesse, another woman stole
his heart. After he returned home, Anna discovered an unfamiliar photo
tucked away in his belongings, which confirmed her suspicions that he has
taken an interest in another woman. Benjamin soon left again and never
returned. Anna Cagle , unable to support herself and young family, sought
refuge with Cook and Cagle relatives. A local fellow, named Samuel hous
1959-1949 admired Anna and happily accepted a new ready-made family for her
hand in marriage. Meanwhile, Benjamin headed to Tennessee, and the woman
in the photo , Margaret Melvian Burch. They wee married October 17, 1888,
in Rutherford County, Tennessee. No one knows if Margaret ever discovered
she was wife #2, at any rate, her children were not ever told. Benjamin and
Maggie moved to Travis County, Texas with their infant son , Ruben Spencer
(named after Sepcerian Script form of writing , in which Benjamin
specialized) in about 1882. The family grew with the addition of seven more
children , all born in Travis County, Texas, They were Ruben Spence b

Benjamin left travis Co. and setted in Huston, where he ran a small grocery
store on Washington Avenue. He was lonsome and missed the company of his
wife, and it is said that he advertised in a local Newpaper for one! His
boldness was rewared and he married Mrs. Jennie Thompson in 1916, . They
were togethere the remainder of his life. He died while visiting with his
daughter , Jonnie, in Fort Worth , Texas, on Oct. 27, 1921. He is buried in
the Mount Olivet Cemetery there. Sometime in the 1920s , Benjamin Jackson
Cagle 1879-1951, son of Benj. and Anna Cagle, decided to search for the
father he had never known . He wrote to various Cagles each time the name
appeared in print. It was when he wrote of James thomas Cagel, the secon son
of the second marriage, that the mystery unffolded . The two families got
acquainted, but by that time, both wives and Benjamin were no longer living.
This was a story that was written by the gr grand-daughter of Benjamin and
Margaret , Mrs gerri Cagle (found in John G. Cagles, The Journal of
Historical Inquiry)
