Dear List,We often mention how many John Cagle's, we have and sorting them out.Now
imagine trying to sort all your John Smith's.Yes, we are pleased to have an uncommon
surname "Cagle"According to the US census bureau the latest census of 2010 shows
only 17, 647 Cagle's,in the USA.Using the US population in 2010 of 309 million 300
thousand people i came up with about1.75% of the population for Cagle. However, math was
not my best subject in school. So maybe someone else can come up witha better
estimatePretty rare breed we Cagle's, are. Then we take the population of Germany as of
12-31-2015 82,175,700 and long story short aneven lesser number of Kegel, Cagle's.
Now on the subject of John Cagle, and Rachel Fox as to who their families were.To the best
of my research on Fox, which is lacking i put her father as William or Thomas Fox.In the
1790 census there was a younger Thomas Fox enumerated in Cumberland Co; NC.His family was
only one male 16 and over, and one female we have to believe is his wife. Now in Rowan
County 1790 is an older Thomas Fox, 5 males under 16, 1 male 16 and over, and 3 females. So
we know all of the Cagle's, of Cumberland, Moore Co; NC.Could John Cagle m. Rachel
Fox, be from John "Dutchman" Cagle family line?We are aware of the Capt. John
Cagle, reported to have been hanged in Mar 1782 in Cumberland Co; NC.So this John Cagle,
and the John Cagle to Rachel Fox, are in my opinion all connected to Leonard Cagle
1684.Excuse me but i can't remember the ladies name who is connected to this
family.The earliest record i find for Thomas Fox, is a tax list for 1755 in Granville Co;
NC. Then a land warrant same county, for Thomas Fox, for 165 acres 14 Mar 1760.So we can
bet the farm they are the same men for both records. Then we have the land record for
Thomas Fox, Rowan Co; NC; 04 Nov 1784. He being the Thomas Fox, enumeratedin 1790 Rowan
Co; NC.Although it is hard to sort out we must use our experience and common sense.
Connecting names to records, for twodifferent families is the best we have.Best
Regards,Earl D. Cagle Sr.
