Thanks Linda,
I'll take all the help I can get. Very briefly, my line runs as follows:
Leonard Cagle, b. 1684, came from Germany, 1732
David Cagle, b. Ger. 1728, lived PA and NC
Henry Cagle, Sr, 1790 census, Mecklenburg Co., NC, 1800 Cabarrus,
Co., NC
Henry Cagle, Jr., moved to Hardin Co., 1828 to New Madrid Co. MO
1838, d. 1857. (My Line)
George Cagle , moved Hardin Co., 1825, New Madrid MO., 1838, d.
1839
George married (Nancy) Elizabeth Freeman. Her folks were Gideon and Deborah
Polk Freeman of Cabarrus Co., NC. George shows in the 1830 census of Hardin
Co. then moves his family to New Madrid Co., NC in 1838. In 1839, George
was killed when a tree fell on him while clearing farm land. In every
census I have seen except one, his wife is shown as Elizabeth Cagle. In the
1880 census, the transcribed copy I have shows W. E. Cagle, and apparently,
you have seen it as M. E. Cagle. I believe her name may have been Nancy
Elizabeth Freeman Cagle. Elizabeth was enumerated in the 1840 census of New
Madrid Co., MO, but was back in Hardin Co., TN before the birth of her
youngest daughter on 11/18/1840. Elizabeth's two boys were bound out by the
court until age 21 to learn a trade, but both ran away on the river,
becoming Steamboat workers. One was killed in a boiler explosion and the
other eventually moved to TX.
Henry Cagle, Jr., brother of George, died in New Madrid Co., MO before
02/21/1857. His heirs were:
2nd Wife, Rebecca Cagle who later married Ransom Fludy, 06/09/1857. (She
didn't morn long)
John Cagle, Susan Cagle and Deborah Cagle Smith residing in Hardin Co. TN
Sarah Cagle Hulin residing in IL
George Cagle and Eliza Cagle residing in New Madrid Co., Mo.
In 1870 those Cagles of my family that are left in New Madrid are:
George Cagle 45 NC
Malinda 37 MO
John 16 MO
Mary 13 MO
Henry 9 MO
William Hulin 17 IL nephew
Louise Smith 5 MO g/dau.? later adopted
Martha Matthews 55 MO domestic servant
Eliza Bishop 35 TN sister of George (husband in CW ?)
Willie Bishop 6 MO
Before 1880, George moved to Fannin Co., TX. However, his son John was
enumerated in the 1900 census of New Madrid Co., living at Morehouse.
John Cagle 47 MO
Elizer J. 52 IL
George W. 21 MO
William 19 MO
Lee W. 17 MO
Laura B. 13 MO
Fred 6 MO
Then in 1910, George W. Cagle, above age 21, is still living at Morehouse:
George Cagle 30 MO
Lutie 29 MO
John 5 MO
Martha 4 MO
That is the last bit of information I have, anything you can do to help will
be appreciated.
David

David,
I live about 15 miles from New Madrid, Missouri, and there are Cagle's
still
living there. As a matter of fact, Cagle's are all around me,
here in the
Missouri Bootheel. They are just everywhere. My gggrandfather is William
Riley McMahan, whose 2nd wife was 'Polly' Cagle, daughter of George Cagle
and M. Freeman. (Do you happen to know what the M. stands for?). I sent
you
information on my Freeman-Cagle-Bain-Kerr-McMahan-Stricklin-Spencer
connection (all of Cerro Gordo). You may already know of these Cagle's
from
here, but if not, I'll help to get you connected to some of them,
if you'd
like.
Linda
