Hello everyone,
I'm inquiring about Leonard Cagle, b.11/1/1780. Can someone please tell
me who his father is. It seems I have him in my family tree under two
different fathers. Thanks, Liz Cagle

Hi I just copied 4 pages of info for you and lost it all . had the
census for your Leonard back to 1810 . (Hope this is the right one .
I don't know when my aunt bought these books but here is a name and
address , mybe they still live there. It is worth a chance because they
have the family Bible.
Leonard Cgle Family Bible Jasper County, MO.
The page at right from the Family Bible of Leonard Cagle 1780-1845,
should help to clarify the family relationships among the Cagles of
Jasper & Lawrence Cos., MO. (Provided by Mr. Robert Ernest Cagle , 20605
Via Azul, Yorba Linda, CA. 92686.) it might be noted that the
birthplaces of Leonard, 1780-1845, and wife Elizabeth 1787-1866, are
given as VA and SC; while this could be correct, it might seem more
likely they were borh born in NC. the 1860 Census of Jasper Co. Mo
lists Eliz. as born in NC. and, it is known that the father of Leonard,
if corectly identified as John Cagle, Sr. Ca. 1740s-1826, was in NC in
the 1760s, and living in what is now Cabarrus Co. in 1780. Of the sons
listed at right , Linsey settled in Lawrence Co. Mo; Henry was in
California in 1850 & 1860; Robert died as an infant; Edwin stayed in
Jasper Co. MO. David remained in Jasper Co. MO. Benjamin , who died in
1900 moved to Charition Co. Mo, Charles remined in Jasper Co MO. willis
moved to Saline Co. MO.
Rebecca , 1817-1884, married John Logan Schooling on Jan 29, 1846, and
their daughter Barthena Schooling, later married David C. Cagle , b
1843, son of Lindsey Cagle 1807-1863, on July 20. 1865. Other Jasper
co.Marriages include David Cagle 1820-1896 to Mary J. Haselwood, Nov.
29, 1854. and Benj., 1825-1900 to Martha Walton , Sep. 23, 1860.
This must be a copy of the page in the Bible.

notes; Leonard and Sampson were brothers who originated among the Cagles
of the Stanly/Cabarrus Co. region of North Carolina. The 1826 letter of
Rebecca Cagle of Montgomery (present Stanly ) Co. NC , widow of George
Cagle , Sr.
d-1825--refers to Leonard and Sampson as "cousins" perhaps Leonard and
Sampson were the sons of John Cagle Sr. , of 1790 census of Mecklenburg
(present Cavarrus) Co. NC, who moved to Davidson Co., TN by 1804, though
this has not been conclusively proven ,Sampson, 1782-1874, remained
permanently in the Warren /Allen Co. area, and is buried in the Cagle
Family Cemetery in Warren county. Leonard who was somewhat older than
Sampson, seems to have died in the 1840sl however, his widow and family
appeared in the 1850 census of Jasper County, Missouri.
1820 nothing listed for them Leonard Cagle
(only Sampson (1820 was in Allen , KY , then in 1830 went back to Warren
county, 1820 Allen Census 0100001-1031201 p.120, then went back to
1830 Warren Co. KY 0100001-1031201 p.109, 1850 Sampson was still in

Notes: Elizabeth Smith Cagle, 1787-1866, widow of Leonard Cgle,
1780-1845, appears here in her last census listing. Chas., Benj., &
Willis , all of whom married after 30 years of age . were her three
youngest sons. Oldest son Lindsey lived in adjoining Lawrence co. ,
second son Henry lived in California, and middle sons Edwin and David
were in Jasper co., as noted below. the family of Leonard and Elizabeth
moved to Mo in the 1840s, from the Warren/ Allen Co. region of Kenrycky.
Leonard's father was probably John Cagle , Sr. 1740s-1826 of Cavarrus
co., NC, who moved to Davidson Co. TN. about 1800. An even earlier
migrant to Jasper of old Barry co., Mo Was Jacob Cagle, 1770s-1836, the
brother of Leonard , 1780-1845. The remnant of Jacob's family was still
in Jasper Co. in 1850, whtn moved on to other states. one son of Jacob,
Robert C. F. 1831-1915, later settled in Hickory co., Mo. see also

(Lindsey Cagle was on of the sons of Leonard Cagle, 1780-1845, and wife
Elizabeth smith, 1780s-1866, who moved from the area of Cabarrus/Stanly
Co., NC. to Warren/Allen Co. Region of KY between 1800 and 1810. In
the 1840s, this family migrated to Jasper Co. Mo, where leionrd soon
died, in 1845. by 1860, Lindsey had moved across the county line into
Lawrence Co. where his family settled permanently. sons David and
Leonard became well-known figures in Lawrence Co., and appeared in all
Lawrence Co. Censuses from 1860 through
1910.
Well I hope some of this well help you , you probably have most of it ,
but didn't really know what you had and didn't. It still did not tell
us were Leonard is buried .
I have that 1826 letter of Rebecca Cagle's in one of these books, will
try and find it.
