Subject: About the Cagles
Mr. Cagle,
I have amassed an enormous family tree for both
sides of my family. As always, though, there are a few branches going
backwards in time that seem impossible to find. In my case, one of the
shortest branches is that of my paternal great-great grandfather, Joseph
Martin Cagle. I have searched high and low for any information about
this man and his wife, Josephine Wiley. I found your e-mail address in a
posting on Genealogy.com's Genforum and I was hoping that maybe you
could help me connect this man to some of the long-researched and
established Cagle lines back to Leonhardt, whom I know the line will
inevitably lead to.
Here is all the information that I have about
Joseph Martin Cagle: he was born in Georgia on January 27, 1854, I do
not know the county or the name of his parents. At some point in time he
moved to Marion County, Alabama. He was married to Josephine Wiley, who
was born on March 10, 1859. They had several children, one of whom was
my father's mother's mother, Lester Idella Cagle (a boy's name, I know).
Joseph died in Marion County on November 22, 1930, of cancer and was
buried the next day at Guin City Cemetery, about a half mile from where
my grandmother, his granddaughter, lives today. Josephine died on April
7, 1946, and was buried beside him.
That is all I can give you. I had originally
thought that he was born in Marion or neighboring Winston County, but I
found out after sending off for his death certificate that he was born
in Georgia. If you can help me or can refer this message to someone who
can, please do. I would love to know more about this side of my family.
Sincerely,
Shane Sanderson
