Cagle List,
I am descended from Leonard the emigrant as follows:
1. Leonard Kegill, migrated to America 1732
2, David Cagle, B. Germany 1728
3. Henry Cagle, Sr. 1760-1838
4. Henry Cagle, Jr. 1780-1857
5. John Cagle, 1813-1879
6. Charles Cagle, 1844-1930
7. Lloyd Cagle, 1880-1970
8. Burnace Cagle 1912-
9. David Cagle, 1940-
Henry Cagle, Sr., No. 3 on the list above had 4 sons according the information that I have
been able find. Henry Cagle, Jr., George Cagle, Charles Cagle and David Cagle. Three of
these sons apparently moved to Hardin Co., TN. Charles arrived ca 1822; George ca 1825,
while my ancestor, Henry Cagle, Jr. arrived in Hardin Co. TN ca 1828. Between 1830 and
1833, Henry Cagle, Sr. also moved to Hardin. The 1830 Census shows:
1830 Census, Hardin Co., TN
Henry Cagle (Jr.) 1001001-000001, (No. 4 above)
George Cagle 2000001-000001 . (brother of No.4)
1833 Tax List, Hardin Co., TN
Henry Cagle, Sr. (No. 3)
Henry Cagle, Jr (No.4)
George Cagle, (son of 3, bro. of 4)
Henry Cagle
James Cagle
The first three names on the 1833 Tax List are my relatives. I recently received an email
form Nadeen McOsKer
concerning the last two Cagles, Henry and James, who are her ancestors. Following is an
explanation:
Henry Cagle, born 11 Jul 1793 in NC, is on the 1840 DeKalb County, AL census.
(Henry is a son of Valentine Cagle. Proof is his birth recorded in
Valentine's Family Bible. Valentine is a son of Johan "David" Dewalt
Theobald Cagle, son of Leonhart Kegel.)
James Cagle ) was born in NC abt 1814. He is a son of Henry Cagle. James and Henry both
appear on
the 1833 Hardin County, TN Tax List. James & Henry are both listed on the 1850
Hancock, AL census.
James can also be found on the 1860, 1870 & 1880 census records of Winston
County, AL. James married Sarah Bird who was born abt 1823 in Hardin County, TN.
I have now been able to prove her parents as yet. (Help here would be
appreciated.) James Cagle is listed as the father of Benjamin Alexander Cagle (b. 15 Aug
1850, d. 25 Apr 1920) on "Ben's" Death Certificate from the State of
Tennessee, certificate #398, of Whitwell, Marion County.
On the 1836 Hardin Co., TN Tax List, of the above, Only George Cagle is listed along with
John Cagle, the son of Henry Cagle, Jr (No. 4). The last two, Henry and James Cagle have
moved to AL. About 1838, it is assumed that Henry Cagle, Sr. has died, and George and
Henry Cagle, Jr have moved to New Madrid Co. MO. George deid there in 1839 and Henry Jr.
in 1857. John Cagle, (No.5) the son of Henry Cagle, Jr. is the only one of the clan left
in Hardin Co. after 1838.
