This is the first time I have heard of another Cagle being in the area at the same time as
Leonhart. I guess because so much has been written on him that we have forgot to look for
others. Very interesting. Keep researching and keep us posted. I will also search.

Subject: [CAGLE] Captain John Cagle
Dear List,Much has been written about the identity of Captain John Cagle, a Tory officer
in the Revolutionary War.This is open for discussion for those interested. An excellent
website of Col. David Fanning's narrative of the Revolutionary War, is located at :
http://www.docsouth.unc.edu/csr/index.html/document/csr22-0043
John Cagle, a Tory officer was reportedly hanged at Pee Dee, Cumberland County, NC in
March 1782.He would have been born probably 1750,s - 1760's. As we know there were so
many John Cagle's, descendedfrom Leonhart. However, there was another Cagle to the
Colonies. Thomas Kegel, who arrived in Philadelphia on the shipEdinburgh from Roterdam,
last sailed from Portsmouth. Arriving in Philadelphia on 13 Aug 1750. As i have made note
ofhere and other postings, little research has been done on him. Who was he? When was he
born? How is he related to Leonhart? As rare as the Cagle surname is today, it was even
rarer during the early 1700's in Germany. He in my opinion was to old to have appeared
in the 1790 census. This is something i am going to start researching. I have put it off
for many years. But it would be nice to find his connection to Leonhart Kegel. Many
researchers believe that all Cagle's, descended from Leonhart b. 1684. I am not among
them. Mainly because we don't know how Thomas, is connected as wellas other's.
They are the only two early to mid 1700 arrivals of Cagle. that i know of. Others started
appearing around the 1800time era. Best Regards,Earl D. Cagle Sr.
