Earl,
I am not at all surprised. I have a copy of the actual census page for
1850. It is Henry O. Cagle. My transcribed copy of the 1860 census
lists the family as that of John Heggle---I have read the microfilm and
I think it is John Keggle. In the transcribed copy of the 1870 census,
Uncle Henry is listed as H. A. Cagle. I am not sure he could write, not
well anyway, but I have his signature which is clearly H. O. Cagle.
There is no mistake. David

David & List,
You bring up an interesting subject concerning hand written records. One
transcribed copy says John Heggle, where as your's is Keggle.
A lot of us know how easy it is to mistake a hand written "K" for an
"H".
It is a wonder we do as well as we do with our genealogy. Also we forget
how many people during these times couldn't read or write. We have all
seen records with an "X" indicating a persons name, with a witness
verifing same.. David, you bring up a good point. One we all need to
remember when doing our reseach.
Thanks,
Earl
