Eddie, just read your posting regarding Calvin Cagle. I remembered the name from having
seen a picture of Calvin Cagle. I
do not know his connection within the Cagle families. The picture I mentioned is in a
book by Vernon H. Crow, titled "Storm In The Mountains" and deals with
Thomas'Confederat Legion of Cherokee Indians and Mountaineers. On page 101 at the
bottom of the page is a photo reprinted from the Waynesville Mountaineer.
The photo was made in 1903 and is the last photo made together of the veterans of
Thomas' Legion. It was made at the New Orleans Confederate Reunion. Calvin
is identified as the last man on the right in the back row. However, the image of Calvin
is only partially shown having been cut in half vertically to format
it to
the page. But not to be outdone and put in just a half appearance old Calvin appears in
full body on the back of the book's dust cover. The interior photo
identifies most of those pictured, the dust cover photo does not identifiy anyone. In my
opinion Calvin
is probably one of our clan, even in 1903 he appears to be a proud man and still ready to
take care of any business at hand. By
the way this book is excellent reading for anyone interested in the subject and the
efforts Thomas made for the Cherokee.

Hi Folks,
Does any one on the list have a Calvin Cagle from the western N.C. area, in their family
line? I found him listed in a book about families of the Smokies.
He was listed as Lt. Calvin Cagle of the 69th N.C. C.S.A. commanded by Col. William
Thomas. The book gave no other info.
I was wondering if he was connected to the other Cagle's of Transylvania Co., western
N.C. or maybe eastern Tenn.
