David,
This might be the scenario. The 1850 Census indicates Catherine is 19
years of age (1831) and
born in Tennessee. I would bet she was born in Hardin Co., TN. Her
family probably migrated
from Hardin Co., with the Cagle who left there abt 1838. I would guess
they were married in
New Madrid Co., MO, probably in 1846 and Columbus was born the following
year with Louisa
following in 1849, just prior to the census of 1850. I would guess she
died of child birth
complications and George married Margaret Matilda immediately afterward.
What I don't
understand is the marriage license of 12 Jan 1849, yet Catherine was
still alive in 1850. I
believe Louisa is the child of Catherine, also and she was born in latter
1849 or early 1850.
I guess we won't know for sure until the grave of Catherine is found. I
think the first child
of Margaret Matilda was John Cagle, born in 1854, New Madrid Co., MO.

Lee,
We have about drawn the same conclusions re this family. I guess I
would go
with that until something turns up. I think I corresponded once
with
someone from this family. I'll look through my old notes and see
what
shakes.
