Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Micah,we appreciate your willingness to be the administrator of the Cagle
Line. The information I have received from the list has helped greatly. I
am literate but semi or greatly computer illiterate. So mistakes I make. I
have one list manager that won't accept post unless in Genealogy jargon like
uniform dates 27 July 2009 and city, county state. and no claims born in a
place if it was not in existence at the date stated. for instance York
County, SC did not exist in the early 1700 of the State .
Micah could we have some info about yourself and your lineage. Bettye Vann

I believe your remarks would serve this list better unsaid. The Cagle List is for the continued research of the Kegel/Cagle descendents and their relationships. Though spelling and punctuation help, the content is more important. We are a friendly group and we want it to continue that way. Please do not post remarks that are not uplifting or otherwise intended to criticize another. Let us continue in the hope that we may help others connect with their long lost or unknown ancestors.

Dear group,
First of all, thank you to Nancy Jane and Earl for your notes of encouragement. I do appreciate it. Secondly, I have not yet heard from Ancestry.com about appointing a new administrator and therefore my response may be unwarranted, but as a member I feel I am in my rights. I apologize if anyone feels that I have needlessly addressed Helena Howell's email, but I think I need to make a point for the advancement of genealogy. I debated on whether to send this privately or to the entire list and decided to generalize some of my opinions so that they might be read by all.
As Lee said in his reply, we are a friendly group. A plethora of information has been garnered and exchanged through the free exchange of emails in the Cagle email list. The keywords are "FREE EXCHANGE." Once in a great while, the members of the list may wage some small debates but they are always civil. The advancement of genealogy depends on facts, stories, and the free exchange of ideas in addition to the willingness of others to share or investigate as evidenced frequently on this email list. If I have anything to say about it, it will continue to be that way. As far as "proof reading" is concerned, if you don't understand something that someone writes, please pose a question in your reply requesting simple clarification. I am sure someone will most gratefully oblige your request. I do feel that the use of the adjective "semi literant" was offensive and that may just be in my opinion but I encourage you to contribute with genealogical material not
critical analysis of someone's writing. This is after all email and not formal writing. In French, there are different rules for different verbs depending on whether the occasion is formal or informal. Both business and english teachers at universities will inform you that there is informal documents and formal documents that require different rules and rhetoric. So the same seems to exist in this media. And lastly may I add in the most frequently used adage of my father, "use honey to attract ants, not poison because you'll attract more and the stench will be less." I wish you well and hope you can make some satisfying contributions to this list.

Micah, Many thanks for stepping up and taking on this responsibility. I feel that with the supportive group you will be heading up this site will continue to be very informative and cooperative for the participants. Best wishes, Earl L. Cagle, Sr.
Thanks Stella and Lee for your support!
I contacted ancestry.com as instructed to obtain help in getting set up as the administrator. I should hear back from them in 24 hours so that should be very soon! I did read that each administrator is supposed to have a set of rules or protocols that are readily viewable by members of the group but hopefully those are already constructed and all I will have to do is keep up :) I don't want to change anything...I think we do pretty good but I do hope to start issuing some emails that will elicit a good discussion of genealogy and a tips list that will help some new members just joining us. Thanks again for all your help now and in the past!

No problem!! Well, it's all at the site that Linda was talking about but I decided to go ahead and look them up for you because I recognized the name. I have a William Cagle in my line so when I was looking for William Cagles a few years ago, I was pursuing any William Cagle links in MO. When you gave Bradley as the middle name, I thought I recognized it and sure enough it was on the death index for state of Missouri. I almost didn't send the link to you because half the fun is the chase, but his death certificate gave you so much more information than what you had previously disclosed that I thought you needed to see it right away.
I sent you the links to the individual death certificates, but I believe Linda Hahn gave you the link for the actual site. From there you can do lookups on all counties from deaths occuring in a Missouri county between the years of 1910-1958...I wish it was this simple for all states!! By using this site, I've been able to connect lines, fill in maiden names, and discover health concerns (like heart disease) that run in my families! That's my primary interest in genealogy: identifying predisposed conditions that we need to keep an eye out for. I've found that my family lines as evidenced by the health of previous and current generations have some poor genes. I guess I just live by the belief that the past helps us in the present and the future. I'm so proud that you have new leads now :) Happy hunting and let us know if we can further assist you!! :)

Thanks so much for the info. How did you find it? Every time I find any thing it is through Ancestery.com and I'm not a member. Thanks.

Cathy,
The Missouri Death Index has 125 Cagles on it. I've been through them all at some point and time because I was looking to get past my dead ends a few years ago. The good news is I did!! :) Below is a link for William Bradley's child, Charles. I won't spoil the rest of it for you: there's a lot of great info on here. Note that he lived in Jackson County (Independence, MO)

My grandfather, William Bradley Cagle was first married to Mollie (Mary) Appleby. They had 6 children, Vida, Charles, Helen, Jessie, Alba and Clarence. She died around 1900 and he remarried to Susan Carmody and they had Lee, Mary, Ruby James and Florence. My mother was Mary. I am interested in any of these children, who they married, where they lived and when they died. Any information would be appreciated.

Micah,
We have been without an active administrator for the past 4-5 years. As we now have learned Earl D has suffered a heart attack and is no longer able to continue in this capacity. Diana, his wife has told me that he will not be able to resume these duties anytime in the foreseeable future. You stepped up to volunteer with a little prodding on my part, and I hope you still have the time and inclination to accept this responsi bility.
You will need to notify ancestry.com advising them that you will be assuming Earl Ds duties with regard to the Cagle surname until he is able and to please direct all correspondence for administrators to you in the future. Ancestry has a file outlining the duties and responsibilities for Administrators. It includes many suggestions for helping to keep the research moving along. We are lucky in that CAGLE is not a common name making it much easier researching.
Micah, on behalf of the Cagle research list, I want to thank you for assuming this important responsibility for the continued growth and research of the CAGLE surname.
Lee

Cathy:
I'm writing now from memory but in doing research in Dade Co. on other family lines,?(my Cagle line went to Allen Co., KY into the Jasper/Lawrence Co., MO area.? Lawrence Co. is the next county south of Dade), I didn't look at the Dade Co. Cagles that much as I believe that?line?had been in Tennessee before going into Dade.(?)??And I believe there were some Cagle graves, in the northern part of the county,?that were in a cemetery that had to be moved when the Stockton Lake was developed about 50 years ago.? I don't currently have information from those cemeteries but had seen?them a few years back when I was at the Allen Co. Library in Ft. Wayne.
Have you tried putting a query on the Dade Co., Missouri list?? You would have to subscribe to it first. It would be to MODADE-L-request(a)rootsweb.com. ? The Dade Co. Genealogical Society has done a very good job of publishing their county cemetery tombstone readings.? Someone who has the right cemetery books might be able to do a look-up for you.?
Also, the state of Missouri has online copies of?Missouri death certificates from 1910 to 1958 and there are several Cagles listed in the index.? It's at http: //www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/.?? You can also Google Missouri Death Certificates and find it pretty quick.

William married Mollie Appleby Nov 11, 1886 and then Susi Ann Carmody on Mar 4, 1900. I guess I'm just looking to find all of the children, who they married, who their children were and when they died. Don't want much do I? Thanks.

Hi Lee and DiAnne,
The last I heard on the administration question was that you wanted me to check into it. Do we have an acting administrator because I certainly have no paperwork?? I had contacted rootsweb but never heard anything back and then we found Earl Cagle in Florida so I thought the matter was closed for now. Hmmm, anyone know anything or how to proceed because the way I explored obviously did not work out. I didn't really feel like the group as a whole supported any changes and therefore just dropped the subject. If others feel differently, please let me know.

Of course, you are still a member. There just hasn't been anyone writing anything.
In fact, I had expected to hear something from our acting administrator. Most of us old knot heads just keep plugging along without realizing there are new folks who may need information.
If there is anyone who needs help, outline your problem and I am sure someone on the list can help you over your wall.
