You can describe your relationship anyway you want. I believe it makes more sense, and is easier to understand if relationships are determined by the software of Family Tree Maker; however, not all of us use the same software. I wouldn't worry about it.

Ashley,
This line also being researched by JILL PLESS" <JCPLESS(a)prodigy.net>
The ancestry of William is unclear; however, he is thought to be the oldest son of the Widow Honor Cagle c.1780-1867. It is not yet known who the widow's husband was.
William and Mary were newly married at the time of the 1820 census of Habersham Co., GA and had no children; however, they raised a large family and were later enumerated in Hall Co., GA with children.
William participated in the 1827 Land Lottery distributed to white settlers of former Creek Indian lands in the west-central part of Georgia, lying between the Flint River to the east and the Alabama State line to the west. From north to south, the 1827 lottery lands stretched from present Haralson Co on the north to present Clay Co on the south. William was one of the fortunate and drew Lot #91, Dist. 21, Lee County, presently Stewart County. William never occupied his tract but, remained in Hall County. The property reverted to the state and was later "Granted" to Thomas R Harris.
William served in the 93d Battalion of the Hall Co., GA Dragoons, in 1836. The unit was commanded by Major Barber.
William Cagle purchased 68 acres from Hiram Cape on 31 Oct 1839 as recorded in Deed Book E, p. 372, Hall Co., GA. This land was situated on the Chattahoochee River in District #9, Lot #97. (Note: Both, William Cagle and Hiram Cape were sons-in-laws of Jacob Cagle, b. 1766.
In what may have been the last sale of public land to a Cagle in Georgia, William, on Jun 28, 1878, received 43 and 8/10ths acres of land in Hall County. This tract, which apparently lay on the N Fork of the Oconee River in SE Hall Co., was in the old part of Hall, in which land was distributed under the Headright system. This region had been opened to white settlement in 1784 as part of old Franklin Co., and became part of Jackson Co on its formation in 1796, and finally part of Hall Co., upon its formation in December 1818. Most of the best land in this region was taken prior to 1800, and it would seem that William's tract must have been a less desirable piece of land, which went unclaimed for nearly a century after becoming available for sale. A transcript of the grant is given in "The Cagle Family in the South, to 1850 by John G. Cagle.
William Cagle 1797-1881, a resident of Hall County since the 1820s, and the son-in-law of Jacob Cagle 1766-1858, died intestate on April 17, 1881. His estate was admitted to probate through the Court of Ordinary, and continued in probate until mid-1886. Hi Neda,
Yes we've talked before. Your Lucinda Cagle Head was the sister of my great
great grandfather Henry Cagle. We were trying to find the Head family. I
still can't figure out why Geoge W. was buried at Dewberry and Lucinda was
buried at Bethlehem Bapt. She's right in there with Henry's wife and son.
Maybe George Head was married twice - I don't think I ever figured it out.
Good to hear from you though. Keep in touch.
Sandra
Sandra, Refresh my memory, please. Do you know the siblings of Henry and
Lucinda? I don't think I ever knew or if I did, I must not have written it down.
I do remember looking at Lucinda's name in Bethlehem Baptist, but wasn't
there a question about it being the right Lucinda? Seems like the dates did not
match (or did they?). I have a copy of a picture of Lucinda. It is really a
bad one. And of George Washington Head.
Did you say you have a web site? If so, I would like to look at it.

Kim, good to know someone is looking in this area. Are you located in the

I didn't have much to work on. Lynn is a Junior and his father is Senior,
Senior's father is A. Z. (no name only initials) and mother is Ruth Geneva
Burress (also Haywood County) dau. of Frank and Alice Conner Burress. This much
is in the A. Z. Bible in Lynn Juniors possession. In the bible is A. Z. ' s
death certificate as well as the marriage certificate. The death
Certificate lists Pinkney and Mary Moody Cagle as A. Z.'s parents. I contacted Lee
Cagle on this forum and he gave me Pinkney's parents as William B. and Ercena
Moore Cagle of Haywood County. A little more sluthing in the census and I find
Pinkney with 3 wives. and a number of children. Pinkney Lewis Cagle
married 1st, Sally Tucker, Dec 24, 1888, dau of John Tucker and Sarah. They had at
least 5 children. She died. He married 2nd, Nora, about 1898. They had
at least 2 children. She died. He married 3rd, Mary Moody, between 1911
and 1914 in Greenville, S. C. area. They had at least 7 children.
Pinkney's parens were William B. and Ercena Moore Cagle of Haywood. I have
a list of 13 children for them.
Wm's parents were John Jonathan and Rachel Fox. He was brother to your
Henry. J. J. and Rachel had at least 7 children. J. J.'s parents were John and
Lucy.
I have names for these children. How does this tie into your info and what
more can you add to what I have? I am looking for cemeteries in the area.
Any info there? I am on my way to the Haywood Courthouse today to see if I
can find anything more. Several of John and Lucey's children settled in this
area so there should be some records available.

Lamona,
I understand, but thanks for the reply. Did you get anywhere with your research on this? The Cagles in my line really seemed to stick together and Dora Bishop's appearance close to John Cagle and family . There was almost always at least one child living beside his/her parents. We still do that, actually. My mother stayed here, one mile away from her parents, and her brother moved back as well and I after traveling awhile now live an hour away as well. A lot can be said for home! The threat of the big earthquake from the New Madrid Fault still hasn't managed to run any of us off!! [humor aside...]
Let me tell you the main reason I am so curious about the Bishops marrying Cagles. My mother is a Cagle. My father is an Allen. My Cagle family has lived in New Madrid County since before 1850. My Allen family moved to Dunklin County from Kentucky in the 1880s. My great great grandfather Allen married an Ellen Bishop whose mother was said to have married into the Hardin Co., Tennessee Bishops. I'm trying to figure out if a long long time ago, one of my Cagle ancestors intersects with one of my Allen ancestors, by way of the Bishops of course. It may be a completely frivolous project but the subject is just too curious for me to walk away. Besides, I need to work on finding these Bishop ancestors anyway.
If you ever become involved with the mystery of who is Dora Bishop Cagle Hayes Smith (and is that the right order??), please let me know. I will keep you posted if I find anything.

Frank J Cagle, b. 1887, TN (assuming the 1930 Census is correct) could be several folks, i.e., Franklin J, Francis J, or Frankie. This just off the top of my head I am sure there are others.

Ashley, I was looking at this 1930 census last night. The index on
ancestry.com shows Frank J Cagle born in Tennessee but that's actually the
person before him. His entry actually shows him to be born in Ankansas. I
did find Irene Hennington (I think) in 1920 in Pittsburg County Ok Ti
District. If this is the right Hennington, one family that also lived in
the same county was James T. Cagle. Is that James Tilner? There may be
some connection - I'm not sure. Sorry I can't help more. Just wanted to
tell you about the error on the index.

Kim, good to know someone is looking in this area. Are you located in the
Haywood County area? We are building a 2nd home in the Maggie Valley area
here and in my spare time I am trying to help Lynn Cagle find his past family.

LEE, 3# is not quite right. It was Lucinda Bartheny Head. She was named
after her mother but was called Louvennia. Are you sure of the 1860 census? Since
she wasn't born until 1866, she couldn't be on the 1860 census. Maybe there
was another child? In fact, there probably were since people usually had more
than 3, I just don't know of any. Also, on down the line is incorrect.
(William Pinkney Bell etc- I will send you a correction on. I know it is from
infoI gave you but it is a little messed up.)

Dana,
Your Leonard Cagle is my 2d Cousin, 4 times removed. Another way to figure it is your Leonard is the 2d cousin, once removed from of my GGrandfather, Augustus Cagle.
How about that, Cousin! Actually, I am not all that smart to figure all these complex relationships. My software does it for me.
