Hi, I just wanted to let the people on this list know about Jimmy Cagle's book.
I ordered Cagle Families In The Southern States from Jimmy. And I love it. There is not a lot of my line in it. But it is still a wonderful book on the Cagles.
I would recommend this book to anyone.
And Jimmy was very prompt in sending it.
I proud to own it. I'm glad I decided to order it before they are all gone.
Sincerely,
Betty Cagle Lee

Alma,
I have just discovered that Sarah E. (Johnston) Cagle in the 1900 Whitfield County, GA census is my great grand-aunt. Do you have any information on this family or her father William Johnston family that you share?
Donna thanks for the web post. You can also get Alabama soldiers listed at
http://www.archives.state.al.us/civilwar/soldier.cfm That is one of the Alabama
Department of Archives and History. Records can be ordered from
ADAH
624 Washington Avenue
Montgomery, AL

phone 334-242-4435
There are lots of information on the pension records.

Donna stated that Issac Jackson Cagle from Ga and lived in Dekalb County Al
, Collingsville son of Joseph Roland Cagle has a service record . I have the
record from the Alabama State Archives (ordered before Internet Genealogy).
They sent me both Issac Cagle's information. The one I ordered was Issac Cagle of
Winston County Al that was the son of John Cagle and Sarah Lovett lived in
Winston County AL.
Issac J Cagle b in GA records says :
Issac J Cagle Private 1861 Big Shenty GA
Johnson;s CO and ______ cannot read 34th GA INF REG
Notes at bottom
Born Dec 21 1840 Canton. Cherokee County GA, Address 107-8, Collingsville
Ala.
Captured at Vicksburg Miss, exchanged and continued in service until close of
the war.
Census, Tax Collector, Dekalb Co Ala, 1909-1908.
This is not my husband's lineage. I did not identify him until Nancy Jane
posted her information. Thanks Nancy Jane.
Bettye Vann Knight
Nancy Jane, I have a copy of the service record of Issac J . Cagle b in GA
and died in Dekalb CO AL son of Joseph Roland Cagle that you had listed.
Living in Collinsville. He must have drawn a pension. Those Records would be
available at the Al State Archives. The copy I have for Issac came from the archives
along with the Issac Cagle records from Winston CO. I would be glad to mail
you a copy if you want it. I can not email you direct the AOL email rejects it.
Bettye Vann Knight
Nancy Jane,
Glad to still you're still on-line and active. We haven't communicated in
several years. (It's been 2 major surgeries and a grandchild ago....)
By the way, this John Cagle was not John Reuben Cagle (that I know of).
John Reuben Cagle was this John's grandson. John Reuben Cagle was Isaac
Cagle's son. He was named after his two grandfathers, John Cagle and Reuben
Norris. This is my direct line.
Take care,
Jim Nix

Hope this is correct. I know I was working on some of these family lines and
did get them confused at one time. Hope this are not ones. I have just been
working on Henry Edward Cagle and Charles Arter Cagle and family . I have over
a 150 pages just on Charles Arter and have gotton almost all the death
certificates for Henry Eward and Martha Isabell Pine Tree. I was able to get a death
certificate for Rebecca Cagle Meeks Meeks married to times to a Meeks man.
Rebecca's real name is Martha Rebecca Cagle we have her we have papers of for
her son while he was in jail and the names she used. We also have her husbands
death certificate that says his wife's name is Martha. Henry and Martha
daughter Sarah Ann Cagle Standridge died in Oklahoma in 1913 and she has a death
certificate we do have it. So there are some death certificates you can get for
these years. Now Sarah husband died a few days after Sarah did but has no death
certificate. They both died of Typhiod Fever.

Notes: James Riley Cagle, 1824-1904, s/o Charles Cagle of 1860 Marion Co.,
appears here in his last census record. His 1st wife, Malinda, died in 1863.
During the Civil War, he served as a blacksmith in the Union Army; after the War,
he was a long-time operator of a gristmill in S.W. Winston County. His 2 nd
wife was Emaline Cagle, 1830-1912, the younger sister of Melinda; both were his
cousins, and daughters of John Cagle, 1798-1863, of Winston County. Eliza
Cagle, listed above as a niece, was perhaps the daughter of Emaline's brother,
Ephraim.
Children of Malinda Cagle and James Cagle are:
14 i. Sherard W.6 Cagle, born 1841 in , , Alabama. He married (1) Margaret
Unknown; born 1855 in , , Alabama. He married (2) Sarah Unknown Abt. 1867 in
, , Alabama; born 1852 in , , Alabama; died Abt. 1879 in , , Texas.
Notes for Sherard W. Cagle:
Anyone know a Sherod W. Cagle? My gg-grandparents, Charles & Susan Stokes,
sold land to Sherod W. Cagle on January 18, 1866. The land sold was located
in Marion Co., AL but the deed was recorded in Massac Co., IL as that's where
Charles was living at the time.
Land description: the SE 1/4 of the NW 1/4 & NE 1/4 of SW 1/4 of Section 34
in Township 10 of Range 12 West. 79 acres and 6 1/100 acre. Marion County,
AL. $1600. It's recorded in book M, page 5. I found this on films at the
Family History Center.
Charles originally obtained the land on September 1, 1860 as you can see on
the online Goverment Land Office site.

Ok. But that means that Leonard C. Cagle 1798 and Henry Washington
Cagle 1804 could be the grandsons of Charles Sr., through Jacob (which
would NOT make them descendants of Valentine as is rumored). However,
it also means that these sons of Charles Sr. (Charles Jr. and Jacob) are
closely allied with the family of Valentine (their first cousin) as we
have 1) them being next to Valentine in the 1800 census and 2) them
moving to Davidson Co., TN which is where Vanlentine's brother John
ended up. Strange, and leaves more questions than I have answers for.
So, where do we put John and wife Jane, then? Under John brother of
Valentine or under Valentine (who has another son named "John")? I
still think John and wife Lucey go under Charles.

Damon,
The material that I have seen suggests that Jacob and Charles of 1800
Buncombe were probably sons of Charles Cagle who died ca 1801
Montgomery. A
Jacob and Charles appear in the 1812 Tax List of Davidson Co., TN.
Jacob in
Buncombe in 1810 is the Revolutionary War Jacob, 1755-1845 who
eventually
lived and died in Warren Co., TN. I don't think Jacob, 1800 and John,
1810 are the same person? JMO.
