Donna,
According to this source " Yellow Race " refers to Asian people. I also
remember hearing as a child that Native American Indian men were sometimes
referred to as "Red Men".

Hello List,
I would like to ask a question. My great-great grandmother was Tabitha Cagle who married Rueben Tucker Hill and there dauther Eliza Hill married Thomas Green in GA and sometime between 1872 and 1874 they went from Birmingham, AL to Boone Co., AR. They had 3 children while living there, Sarah "Sallie", Mary Ellender and Lou Emma (my Grandmother).
Sarah b: 1874
Mary b: 1876-----d: 1879 (Boone Co---need proof of where buried)
Lou b: 1880
Were there any Cagle's in that area at the time?
Thanks,
Mollie Charles Pawlik
mpawlik(a)houston.rr.com
These Cagle's, and Chance's were keeping it in the family so to speak.
However, I can't say a whole lot because this is the case in my family. I
am married to the former Diana Matney, my youngest brother William is
married to the former Laura Matney, and my oldest brother Harry Cagle, is
married to the middle sister Shelia Matney. So as you see there are three
brothers married to three sisters in our family.

I think you may be correct John, as I seem to recall some other records on
Cagle's, from this part of Mississippi.

Sorry I forgot to include the Internet Address :
http://www.sec.state.la.us/archives/gen/cpa-alpha.htm
This is a good site and a good way to verify relationships between men & women. As you see they in most cases give the husbands & wives names.

I found this record online but can't remember where it was. I failed to
save it in my favorites folder.
The heading is titled "Claims West Of Pearl River" with a description as
follows :
No. 4 Abstract containing a List of the Names of Actual Settlers on Land in
that part of Louisiana which lies East of the Mississippi River and Island
of New Orleans, and West of Pearl River, who have no claims thereto,
derived from the French, British, or Spanish Governments.
Among the many names listed are :
Roger Cagle July 1810
Coonrood & Lenoar Cagle November 1810 ( Conrad & Leonard Cagle ? )
This places them as very early settlers in this part of the country.

John Evert Cagle registered for the draft on 12 Sep 1918 at the Local
Board for Sequoyah County in Sallisaw, OK. He stated his
date of birth was 18 Mar 1884. He states he is a self employed farmer.
His next of kin is his wife or mother, Nannice? Cagle of
Sequoyah Co., OK. The Registrar, A B Ferguson, reports he is tall,
medium build, blue eyes, and light colored hair.
Also, William Riley Cagle, b. 15 Feb 1885, registered for the draft on
the same date as John Evert Cagle, above. He lists and his
next of kin his wife or mother Janice Cagle of Sequoyah Co., OK. He is
reported as tall, medium build, blue eyes and light collored
hair (same as John Evert Cagle, above). One might conclude they are
brothers.
Can anyone tell me who their parents are?

My wife Diana, was doing a marriage lookup for someone at the courthouse
yesterday. While there she found a marriage for Jacob Cagle to Mrs. Nancy
Bartlett, 15 Mar 1883. I knew of the Pike Co; Mo; marriage of Jacob Cagle
to Mary Love, on 16 Apr 1846.
This had me wondering if this was the same Jacob Cagle, married to these
women. If anyone has the answer to this question let me know. With some
perseverance I wanted to know who the Nancy Bartlett, was and if she had
been married before. So I went to one of my favorite search sites LDS
Family Search. There she was in the 1880 census for Louisiana, Pike Co; Mo.
Her husband was Sandes Bartlett, age 72 a dealer in cigars. Nancy, was
listed as 32 years old along with a Luisa Thompson age 17, listed as a
daughter, Aggie Griffith age 9 a daughter, and Lidia Brawkaw age 76, listed
as mother in law. I don't think any of these children were Nancy
Bartlett's. Could Sandes Bartlett, been married to two women named
Thompson, and Griffith?
Interesting family here anyone have any thoughts or ideas?
