OK, maybe I am reading the post wrong from Elaine Day, but isnt she
trying to say she wants to contact Phyllis Styron about her post of
July 13, 1999 saying that they are cousins to this "Tommy Cagle"?
It looks like she meant to be a reply to that post saying that her
brother in law Thomas Wesley Cagle was in the Baptist Children's Home
during this time?
Maybe I am reading it wrong.

You will get better results if you can furnish birth and death

Melva & List,
This is a good idea to check with your county clerk first. Like you say
they may have it on file already.
Thanks,

Hi Earl,
Some people when they were discharged from service filed a copy of their
discharge papers at the circuit clerks office in the county where they
lived. This is called a D-214 form and they ask for ID (such as a drivers
license) and your relationship to the vet since these military records have
the vets social security number on it. I didn't have to fill out a form but
the vet did have to file the form. I got one for my cousin because he
couldn't get one from the federal records as his fathers was destroyed in a
fire. Hope this might help someone.

Donna,
Thanks for your help to Amy. I think we have her on the right track now.
With this link you sent she should be able to get his records.

Amy & List,
I found what appears to be your father's death record on the SSI database :
THOMAS H CAGLE 09 Jul 1933 18 Apr 2001 (V) 97031 (Hood River, Hood River,
OR) (none specified) 429-56-4294 Arkansas
Didn't know if you had this or not but just in case you don't. May be
someone on the list can tell you where to write for his Navy records.

I assume that all military records can be obtained here. I just got my
father's Air Force records last week. Just go to the link below and fill out
the form. It took mine about 3 weeks to process. I think if you aren't next
of kin it may take longer.

NPRC initiates online records request procedures
The National Personnel Records Center is working to make it easier for
veterans with computers and Internet access to obtain copies of documents
from their military files.
Military veterans and the next of kin of deceased former military members
may now use a new online military personnel records system to request
documents. Other individuals with a need for documents must still complete
the Standard Form 180 which can be downloaded from the online web site.
The new web-based application was designed to provide better service on
these requests by eliminating the records center's mailroom processing time.
Also, because the requester will be asked to supply all information
essential for NPRC to process the request, delays that normally occur when
NPRC has to ask veterans for additional information will be minimized.
Veterans and next of kin may access this application at
http://vetrecs.archives.gov. Please note there is no requirement to type
"www" in front of the web address.

Hello to any and all Cagles out there. I have just recently joined your
newsletter, and I am really new to the whole ancestry searching scene, so
please bare with me.
I will share what little I know. Most of what I do know is vague.
My father's name was Thomas Henry Cagle. He was born in Arkansas. I believe
that when he died 2 years ago he was 68 or 69 years of age. So, he was
probably born around 1933. I know that he served in the Navy. He once told
me that he was only 17 when he enlisted. I believe that he served during the
Korean Conflict. Shortly before his death, in New Port Ritchie, Florida, his
girlfriend said she had come across some sort of medal & some papers
relating to my Dad's military service. Unfortunately, she chose to mail them
to one of my sisters who is no longer speaking to the rest of her family, so
I do not have access to them.
He and his younger brother, who's name I can not remember, were supposedly
living on the street when my father enlisted in the Navy. Dad once told us
that his parents abandoned them when he (my Dad) was only ten. He said that
they had had 9 children in the family & that his parents could not afford to
feed them all, so they left the two behind who were not old enough to work
and not too young to fend for themselves. I never really knew how much of
this story was true. My dad had a terrible tendency to embellish (or flat
out lie about) any story he ever told. At any rate, I never met any
grandparents on my father's side of the family. I did meet my dad's younger
brother once, before he died. He died when my father was 50. I remember it
clearly because my father was so drastically affected by his death.
He married my mother, Merilyn Ann Maihl-Cagle when he was 21. That would
make it around 1954, however, I do know that they divorced in 1986 or 1987 &
were married for 31 years. That would put their marriage at about 1956. At
the time that they were married, my mother & her family were living in The
Dales, Oregon.
I'm unsure of how much recent family history to include, however, I do know
that he had been in touch with one of his sisters in the later years of his
life. I do not know her name, her age or her address. I only know that as of
my father's death she lived on the Oregon coast, not far from Portland.
If anyone has information about how to search for military records online, I
would very much appreciate learning about it. Also, any less recent family
history which may help me trace my ancestry would be incredibly helpful.
Thank you,
Amy Cagle

Debi,
No, the list is still up and running. It is just going through one of it's
slow and quiet period's. Over the years the list has been online this
happens now and then. However, to the new folks if you have not posted you
family lines, now is a good time to do so. As always if you have questions
about your Cagle's, someone will try to help.

Hello out there!
Haven't heard from the Cagle News Letter in awhile! Taking some time off?
I hope that every thing is ok.
I have set my spam filter quite high, but it shouldn't effect my newsletter.
At least I hope not!
