Earl,
Thanks for the Roll Call. I hope we can have some good discussions. David
has asked some very good questions.
I'd like to ask that everyone on the Cagle List answer this Roll Call.
Through this list I've found cousins in Texas and California that I didn't
know I had. With the help of my cousins in Texas and California, I've found
out where my gg-grandmother Artensey Cagle 1832-1905 is buried in Texas.
Artensey Cagle's husband James Cagle 1830-1895 is buried in Shiloh Cemetery
in Warren County Tennessee.
Thanks,
Randall
Cagle List,
I think David poses a very good discussion question. I for one have
always been confused about the second and third generation of Leonhart Cagle.
I'd like to say that I've not personally done any of the research on the
early Cagle family. Having said that, I'd like to say how much I appreciate
all the work and effort that everyone else has done on this line. Without
their diligent work, a lot of us would be at dead ends. We greatly appreciate
all the work that you've done for the Cagle line.
If I may, I'd like to ask a couple of straight forward questions.
1. Is there a general agreement of who the children of Leonhart Cagle
are, and could someone please list them?
2. Who are generally believed to be the children of Johan Theobald
"David" Cagle?
I could ask several more, but I don't want to wear out my welcome.
The reason that I asked the second question is that I have believed that
Jacob CagleSr., is the son of "David" Cagle. Is the any children of David
Cagle other than David and George Cagle?
Several of us here on the Cagle List are fairly certain that we can trace
our ancestry to Jacob Cagle Sr., 1755-1845 and Jacob Cagle Jr., 1775- ( I
forget). The reason that I state this is that I've also seen that Jacob Cagle
Sr., sometimes listed as the son of John "Dutchman" Cagle.
I told you that these two generations were confusing to me. Is there a
general consensus about these? I don't want to cause any divisions, but the
more information that we have, the better we are able to determine the facts.
A big "thank you" to Earl Cagle, the Cagle List Administrator. Thanks to
David Cagle and Lee Cagle for their contributions and everyone else. Without
these dedicated people, we wouldn't have nearly as much information on the
Cagles as we have now. Another thank you to Cliff and Ellen Rogers, Bill
Scruggs and Betty Lee. I look forward to hearing your responses.
Randall Cagle
Okay, Earl, here's my bit (and please see the notes, below):
My grandfather, John Earl Cline, b. 1887, d. 1973, son of:
John Wesley Cline b. 1856, d. 1946 m. Lou Sharp. John was son of
Martha (Patsy) Cagle, b. 1835, d. 1932, m. Levi Cline. She was daughter
of:
John Cagle, b. 1810, d. 1872 m. Fanny Macon. He was son of
Peter Cagle, b. ca 1775, d. bef 1850, m. (UNPROVED) Rachel Boling, c.
bef 1850
Peter was son of Henry Cagle Sr., b. ca 1730, d. after March 1802, m.
Caterana Seitz.
Henry Cagle was son of Leonhart.
Two notes for anyone descended from John Cagle and Fanny Macon (aka
Mickens):
1) Although many in my line refer to John Cagle's wife as Fanny
Mickens, I think her name was Macon. I believe (but cannot prove) that
this occurred because her father died when she was 2 years old, and she
was raised by her mother and grandmother in North Carolina where John
Cagle was born & married her. But then they moved to Cherokee County,
GA, where the Macons were not as well known. I'm speculating that the
name "Macon" became corrupted to Mickens by pronunciation, as in "her
mother was one of the Macon's" Say that with a Southern accent, and
it's at least conceivable. But for those of you descended from John
Cagle & Fanny Macon, let me tell you why I am pretty sure she was a
Macon. The marriage bond (1833) between John Cagle and Fanny Macon
(written clearly as Macon), was signed by Jacob Page. Fanny Macon had a
brother Thomas, who married Rhoda Page. The will of Frankie Needham,
filed in NC, mentions her grandchildren Thomas and Fanny Macon. All
the ages match. Jacob Page was related to Thomas Page, Fanny's only
living male relative. So that's why I concluded that Fanny Macon is the
correct spouse of John Cagle. Lastly, one final basis for the
conclusion is that while there is contemporary documentary reference to
Macon as her last name (ie., the marriag record), there is no
documentary evidence that disputes the name of Macon, in favor of
Mickens. I have the death certificate of Martha (Patsy) Cagle Cline,
which lists her mother's name as "Mason" which would point to Macon,
more than Mickens (although not probative, obviously).
2) This note also will be of interest only to those of you descended
from John Cagle and Fanny Macon: I have been looking into the Macon
line, which is fascinating. Fanny was the daughter of John Macon, son
of John Macon (Revolutionary War patriot, and related to the Nathaniel
Macon that all the Macon counties and Randolph Macon College were named
after), son of John Macon (yes, I know, 3 John Macon's is very confusing
to me, but I got used to all our Henry Cagle's, so it wasn't so bad!),
who was the son of Gideon Macon. Gideon Macon (b. ca 1637, d. ca 1702)
came to Virginia from England in 1660, was a well known figure of his
day, a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses, and one of the
founding members of the Bruton Church in Williamsburg. He is listed in
the Parish Register as a Vestryman in 1685. The church still stands in
Williamsburg, with Gideon's name on a brass plaque. So for all of you
who may have visited Williamsburg and seen the church, one of our
ancestors was there before you!
Regards,
Jennifer

Are there any descendants of Julia Ann CAGLE & Franklin LATTA out there?
Love to hear from you.

Hi from Coastal North Carolina.
I am a CAGLE descendant through my maternal grandmother Freda Viola CAGLE SUMMERS (1903-2000). The ancestral lineage then tracks as follows: Enoch Erastus CAGLE (1881-1944); George CAGLE (1841-1919); Enoch CAGLE (1811-1871); George W. CAGLE (1782-1864); Henry CAGLE, Sr. (1735-18020 through Caterana SEITZ; Leonhart CAGLE [KEGEL] (1684-1754.
Many thanks to folks who have helped me to get this involved. I am interested in finding out more about Enoch CAGLE (1811-1871), where he lived, died, occupation, religion, etc. Much appreciated.

Henry, Jr and George, sons of Henry Cagle, Sr. c1860-c1838, moved from Hardin Co., TN to New Madrid

They were not children of Henry Cagle Jr. They were from a previous marriage. Was Rebecca formerly married another Cagle? Need help on that and descendents of other Cagles of New Madrid Co. MO.

Hi Evelyn and List.
Question: I note you have Valentine Sr. as the son of John Dutchman. Other
information I have seen indicates that Valentine Sr. was the son of David,
1728-1780's? I haven't seen any proof either way, mostly circumstantial
evidence presented by John G.
Thanks,
David
