Oh, my word! What memories that one brings up! I headed right for the
dictionaries to see if 'rinch' was there, and it wasn't. But it was in use,
in a lot of places, I suspect. I heard it often enough!
We have been busy on our Cagle lines this spring. Austin is preparing an
article for the Chelan Historical Society on his Auntie Rae Stuart Cagle. It
will include maps of the early homestead near Earl, Lincoln County,
Washington where his Uncle Walter grew up, then what he remembers of his
cousins and their lives. John Franklin Cagle was postmaster at Earl from
about 1896 to 1908 when the family moved to Chelan.
We received Jimmy B. Cagle's excellent book - THE resource for any serious
Cagle researcher, folks!! When we are ready to pass along our notebooks on
that family to the daughter of Austin's late cousin Duward Cagle, we'll
include that book for her with great pride. It's a treasure.

There are not many still around who can recall the old fashion Monday,
wash day on the farm. I found these instructions given to a new bride in
the late eighteen hundreds that brought back memories. As things seem
to be little slow, I thought I pass them along.
1. Bilt fire in backyard to heat kettle of rain water.
2. Set tubs so smoke wont blow in eyes if wind is pert.
3. Shave one hole cake of lie soap in bilin water.
4. Sort things, make 3 piles. 1 pile white, 1 pile colored. 1 pile work
britches and rags.
5. To make starch, stir flour in cool water to smooth, then thin down
with bilin water.
6. Take white things, rub dirty spots on board, scrub hard and then
bile. Rub colored, don't bile, just rinch and starch.
7. Take things out of kettle with broomstick handle, then rinch and
starch.
8. Hag old rags on fence.
9. Spread tea towels on grass
10. Pore rinch water in flower bed.
11. Scrub porch with hot soapy water.
12. Turn tubs upside down.
13. Go put on clean dress, smooth hair with hair combs, brew cup of
tea, sit down and rock a spell while you count your blessings.

Are you sure this means husband of Rebecca H Cagle, being Robert Cagle?
It looks to me like this means daughter Hilda Morris and husband Robert
Morris. Usually if we are survived by hsband it would have him first and
say his full name. Could depend on who wrote it, of course Regards

Anyone out there have a Sylvia Cagle? Wife of??? Anything. My Family info was found in her old bible? Why? My Danhauer came from Germany. How does she tie into my family? She's not on the tree.
Please help me figure out this puzzle.
I received the following obit from a cousin in NC. Can anyone connect
with Robert Cagle,
who survives and is the husband of Rebecca H Cagle.
Let us hear from you.

Hi, Lee,
Haven't sent anything out lately, been working on my other "sides". Saw
this in the Southern Pines Pilot, don't have the vaguest idea how she
connects, but thought I'd send it along in case it might be of some help
to some one. If you know, please post her line.
Thanks,

Rebecca Hyman Cagle, 91, of Carthage died Wednesday (June 5, 2002) at
Pinehurst Nursing Center in Pinehurst.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Carthage united
Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Terry Huffines. Burial will
follow at Cross Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to
8:30 p.m. Friday at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home in Carthage.
Mrs. Cagle was a daughter of the late William D. and Hilda Early Hyman.
She was a member, former treasurer, trustee and administrative board
member of Carthage United Methodist church. She was a former member of
the Carthage Garden Club, Carthage Planning Board, Moore County Library
commission and Rotary Club of Carthage where she was a Paul Harris
Fellow. She had served as a Carthage town commissioner, a secretary in
the Spence and Boyette Law Firm and was retired from the Farmers Home
Administration in Carthage.
Surviving are a daughter, Hilda C. Morris and her husband, Robert; a
brother, Robert J. Hyman; two grandchildren, Dr. R. Keel Morris of
Raleigh and Thomas W. Morris and wife, Lisa of Seven Lakes; two
great-grandchildren; Will and Kate Morris of Seven Lakes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carthage United Methodist
Church, P.O. Box 70, Carthage, NC 28327.
First of all, I just returned from a visit to Winston County, AL. It is a beautiful county, very hilly and very lush. You pretty much have to stay in Haleyville as there are very few hotels in the area. The library has practically nothing. Linda's Trophies, the unofficial official HQ of the Genealogy Society had quite a bit but most of it I either had bought or seen in other libraries. There was one book on the Union Grove Church that was interesting though.
I stopped by the courthouse which yielded more information than I expected. My Stokes left the county in 1877. The courthouse burned in 1889 (I think that's right). I really didn't expect to find anything. However, many of my Stokes re-recorded their land purchases and sales -- I guess to get them on record.
Now the question... One of the recorded purchases was originally dated 12-12-1851 (recorded 7/27/1887 & 12/16/1911) where William Stokes bought 40 acres (SW 1/4 of SW 1/4 S31 T10 R9W) for $150 from Charles & Anna Cagle. Does anyone know who Charles & Anna might be? I looked in the 1850 census but didn't see a Charles & Anna.
Thanks in advance!

This information is from the message boards on RootsWeb.com on NC Shuffields. Good Luck.

Searching for information on William G Cagle who died in Jackson Co. Ga on 11/24/1945. Believe this might be Grover Cagle who was killed in a train accident with his entire family. Need to know the name of William G Cagle's father. Also need to know if there were 2 or 3 children in this family.
Nellie,
Henry Cagle Sr., ca 1760-ca 1837-38, was married to (Elizabeth?) Waggoner, probably in Mecklenburg, later Cabarrus, Co., NC. He appears in the 1790 Census of Mecklenburg, 1800 and 1810 in Cabarrus, probably 1820 in Montgomery (he owned land in that county at that time). He appears in the 1830 census of Montgomrery, he is in Hardin Co. TN, shown on an 1833 Tax List, had 150 acres surveyed in 1837 Hardin Co. TN, then disappears form the record that year. Henry Cagle Jr. was also married in the Cabarrus Co. NC area, but I don't have the slightest idea who he married the first time. His 2nd marriage was to a Rebecca______? ca 1845-50 in New Madrid Co., MO.

Hi David,
Thanks for sending me your family tree of Cagle. Yours seem to be different Henry Cagles from my family tree. However, I find it quite interesting. Did your family come from NC? Also, do you have the names of their spouses, especially the spouse of Henry Cagle Sr and where they married?
