Look at this family group, I think some of the marriages above belong in this
one. The Henry brother of John and Calvin, could be the H. W. Cagle and the
Henry Cagle below it could have been married twice. What do you think and
can any of you claim some of the rest of them?? The other Owen could be
Owens??

Lee:
Thanks for all that data. That is certainly the right family. I didn't
realize that Jimmy B Cagle had Lizzie's family in his book. I guess I
should buy a copy.
It will take me a while to digest all that data, but I now have enough to
work on solving the mystery of who the father was for those Cagle children
of Lizzie and, indeed, who Lizzie's father was. I have a feeling that
others have tried and failed, so I may not have much of a chance.
I went to the FHC today and found out a little about Thomas and Nancy
Stewart, the people with whom Margaret and her Cagle children lived. Nancy
is Nancy WADE, daughter of Mark WADE, and she married Thomas STEWART on 3
Jul 1823 in Copiah Co MS (theirs is the very first marriage on page 1 of
Copiah Co Marriage Record book A, on LDS film 0876488). Perhaps Jesse
Cagle's first wife was a WADE, a sister of Nancy.
I took a quick look for Thomas and Nancy Stewart on the 1870 Copiah Co
census film, but didn't find them. Do you know specifically where they
might be found on the various censuses?

Merritt,
I finally made the connection. It has taken me most of the day but, this
is the result. I have
more generations but, this should get you started. As you can see, this
will take you back
to Leonhart Kegel, b. 1683, Germany.

P.S. Most of this information is in Jimmy B Cagle's book, "Cagle
Families in the Southern
States" which was recently published. I covers the Mississippi CAGLES
pretty extensively.
I recommend it. His email address is: <JBCagle(a)aol.com>
Generation No. 1
1. Margaret Matilda6 Cagle (Jesse5, Conrad4, Roger Sr3, Leonard2,
Leonhart1 Kegel) was born February 1840 in Copiah County, Mississippi.
She married Unknown.
Notes for Margaret Matilda Cagle:
Margaret appears in the census of Copiah Co., MS for 1850 and 1860 with
her father. The 1870 census
has her in the Household of Thomas and Nancy Stewart. With her on this
census are her two children
Elizabeth "Lizzie" age 6, and Walter, age 2. Margaret is still in the
household of Thomas Stewart;
however Nancy has apparently died (she was 62 in the 1870 Census).
Listed with Margaret in the 1880
census are Walter, now age 12 and Katie, age 3 yrs. Elizabeth "Lizzie"
who would have been 16 yrs
for this census is no longer with her mother in the Stewart household.
No marriage record has been found for Margaret or any other record to
indicate who is the father of Margaret's children and in later
records the appear with the surname of CAGLE. The relationship of
Margaret of Margaret and her children to the Stewart's or the other
members of this household is unknown. There definitely seems to be some
Cagle connection to Thomas Stewart, head of the 1870 household. This is
indicated by Margaret's appearance in this same Thomas Stewart's
household in the 1880 census with her son, Walter and a young daughter,
Katie born in 1877. It is quite possible that either Thomas Stewart, or
his
wife, Nancy may be a sibling of Margaret's mother, the first wife of
Jesse Cagle.
There has been no document, death information or burial location
indicating the death of Margaret's
mother although her father married Margaret A O'Neal before 1850. It may
be that Nancy, the wife of
Thomas Stewart in the 1870 census, was also the first wife of Jesse Cagle
and thus mother to Margaret.
Much more work is necessary to answer these questions.
The 1900 Census, Copiah Co, MS lists a Mag Cagle as a boarder with J.
B. Nicholson. She is enumerated as a widow who was married for thirty
years and who has borne three children. The census
further indicates that all three children are still alive in 1900. She
is enumerated as age 70, born in 1860. The age and birth date do not
reconcile. Her age should have been 60 born in 1840. The 1870
census did not indicate marital staus. In the 1880 census Margaret is
listed as single, and in the 1900
census, as a widow who had been married for thirty years.

Hello All,
Diana & I are going on vacation for two weeks.
Her sister lives in Florida, and this is a great

Good Morning Everyone!
If you will recall about a year ago I received a copy of a Will of one Henry Kegel of Northampton Co, PA that was executed March 12, 1789. It was written in old Americanized German and despite many attempts I was unable to get it translated. Last Christmas some friends of Nancy Jane who were going to Germany took a copy along and came up with the translation I have included below.
A couple of comments so everyone is in perspective. This is certainly not to be confused with the will of Leonhart's son Henry. Northampton Co, PA is, however, in the same geographic location that Leonhart's family originally settled in. If I recall correctly, Northampton was also the home of Andreas Felsinger and the Seitz families. There is also a Michael Cogle found in Northampton County Land warrants in 1752. (If your are interested in pursuing this you might want to review some of my previous Genforum posts about and Early PA Cagle Family that we have been unable to link to Leonhart, but does show up in Northampton, Berks and Lehigh Counties in the mid to late 1700's)
Bottom line is that both Nancy Jane and I agree that we cannot at this time link this Henry to Leonhart, but we need to keep his name in mind as he could be a cousin, nephew, etc.
Will is Below!
Have a Good Day!
Tom Cagle
Saegertown, PA
In The Name Of God Amen.
I, Henry Kogel in Hamilton Township in Northampton County in the State of Pennsylvania, am sickly at my body, but thanks to God, sound of mind and because I don't know, if the Lord will leave me on this earth any longer, so be the will of God as he wills... Therefore, I declare and order that my last will and testament as in the event of my death with the little of my earthly goods which the Lord has given me, shall be done. First, I give my soul into the hands of God the Almighty, who has given it and the body to the earth, from which it came, that it shall be buried rightfully and that all the costs and all my lawfull debts shall be paid honestly and correctly by my heirs. And when my lawful; debts are paid correctly, then the rest of my belongings, shall it be little or much, shall go to my beloved housewife Elisabetha in her use as long as she carries my name. Should she get married again then shall she have her bed, bedstead?, kitchen? and four pounds in cash. The rest shall go to my two children Nickolas-Wentzel and Elisabeth, my daughter. And as my last will I declare that my dear friend Mathias Konig is executor, so that everything will be correctly and timely executed and done. This was done the fourth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine (1789). Sealed and signed in our presence Conrad Arnold, _____ Schribler and M. Konig. Seal: H. Kegell
It would depend on whether he was baptized and when.

More About Sarah Sally Cagle:

Franklin Co., GA widow
Census 3: 1860, Franklin Co., GA widow
====================================
Lee & List,
Using part of your posting I want to clarify this.
You can't tell by the 1840 & 1860 census if a
woman is a widow. This isn't shown on census
records until 1880.
Earl
Greetings All,
Can anyone tell me anything about the CAGLE CEMETERY in Deer Head Cove,
DeKalb Co Alabama. Jeremiah Cagle and his family where in DeKalb Co in 1850
/1860 and I am wondering if any of Jeremiah's family could be buried there. I
am looking for his wife Sarah PUCKETTnot sure where he would be buried.
If you can tell me anything about this cemetery, where it is located and if
it is online, I would love to hear from you.
Lee, I am working on the Puckett file, hope to send to you in a couple of
days, lots of typing to do, they are a BIG family.
Freida in NM
Yes, it is on line and is referred to as Cagle Cemetery/Deer Head Cove
To get to it, go to rootsweb locational search, click Alabama, click
county, click Deer Head
Cove.
I don't think any of Jeremiah's immediate family would be buried there.
Jeremiah died
during the civil war and I have no idea where he might be buried. As far
as I can tell,
none of his siblings followed him to DeKalb Co., from Winston. His wife
Sarah Puckett
was from Tennessee and might have returned to Tennessee on her husbands
death.
I know this isn't offering much hope, but I would check the Cemetery
Records anyway.

Jackie, I have Christopher as "DENHAM"; however his will reads "DENMAN"
which is
correct?
She was still in Franklin County as late as 1860 and appeared on the
census then. I would
start my search there. Her son was killed during the civil war which
left her with two
daughters. I would pursue the daughters, one of which married a WOOD.
It is likely she
lived with one of her daughters later in her life.
Sorry I have nothing further to suggest.

Johnny,
I don't see where anyone else has responded to your inquirey.
Henry Cagle who d. 1802 is thought to have been born in PA abt 1735. He
is the son
of old Leonhart Kegel, b. 1683 in Germany.
If you have the full birth dates of the 10 Children of Peter and Rachael,
I would appreciate
having that information. I have the years only for four of them.
I just finished ordering the everything that John G. Cagle has published
to include
his Cagle Journals covering the years 1985 to the Current year. The
total cost was
$428.
You may write him at P.O. Box 55342, Little Rock, AR 72215.
