Earl,
I like the idea of a list or category for "unattached" Cagles that are
obviously part of the same Cagle group but whose parents are not yet
identified. Frankly, I think that my earliest known Cagle, Leonard Cagle
(1798-1866) of NC, fits into this unattached category. Several good theories,
including mine, are around but I have not one shred of solid evidence to
support mine and I am yet to find anyone who has evidence for their's.
Dana Meara
Mesquite, TX
Earl,
I wonder if we might establish a catagory of Unknown Cagles on the list.
List members
could review the list occasionally to determine if any are members of
their branches.
All of us have run across Cagles who seem to have dropped from the sky,
yet they belong
to the Cagle family somewhere. Maybe, we could at least identify the
branch. What do
you think.
I noticed in Jimmy B's book, he has listed several which cannot attach to
any family. I too,
have come across a Jacob Cagle with wife Rutha or Ruthy who are the
parents of Peter
Cagle, I have included notes which I have gotten from others who are
researching this
same person. Nancy Jane Balmer sent me copies of the original
applications for recognition
of indian status filed with the Dept of Interior by the children of Peter
and Eliz. All are dated in the 1900-1907 period.
Descendants of Peter Cagle
Generation No. 1
1. Peter4 Cagle was born May 1829 in Sevier Co., TN, and died August
1904 in Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., TN. He married Elizabeth Henson Abt.
1846, daughter of Thomas Hanson and Nancy. She was born Abt. 1825 in
DeKalb Co., GA, and died 1896 in Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., Tennessee.
Notes for Peter Cagle:
Currently being researched by Alma Adams. Also, Sue Forrester
<sueforrester(a)hotmail.com>."I was recently told by another descendant
that Peter Cagle died in 1903 while living in Hamilton Co TN and was
buried in the National Cemetery here. The family was later requested to
move his body to another cemetery as he fought for the Union and not for
the Confederate army. The body was removed and taken to Memphis TN where
he was buried in the National Cemetery there. What I can't find are
records supporting any of this.
1. I have not been able to find Peter on the Tennessee 1900 Soundex.
Another descendant who lives here said she could not find him in TN in
1900 either and thinks he might have been in GA for a brief time.
2. The National Cemetery here started as a burial site for the Union
soldiers who were killed or died during the Civil War. They have very
good records going back to ca 1862. There were five thousand unknown
Union soldiers buried here during the War, but not afterward.
3. The National Cemetery records up to ca 1940 or later or onmicrofilm
in the Chattanooga Public Library. I pulled this microfilm but did not
find Peter Cagle ever having been buried here.
4. The historian for the Chickamauga/Chattanooga National Park Service
was in the Library at the same time as I doing some research. I told him
what I had been told. He said the government would not have requested the
family to remove him for that reason. However, there would still have
been a burial record with a note attached of the removal if he had been
buried in the National Cemetery to began with.
5. He pulled records for both the Union and Confederate and did not
find a Peter Cagle enlisting for either. The Chattanooga descendant said
she believed that he was enlisted in some type of a home guard but never
saw any actual fighting. He was too old.
6. To double check the National Cemetery microfilm I telephoned the
office of the cemetery Tuesday. There is no burial record for a Peter
Cagle. They said the same thing as Jim Ogden, historian for the Park
Service.
7. William U. Cagle did live in Memphis, TN for a period of time. I
just don't know from when to when.
The same descendant who told me this also said that Elizabeth died in
1898."

Children of Peter Cagle and Elizabeth Henson are:
2 i. Francis Marion5 Cagle, born 1849 in Tennessee.
3 ii. Margaret Evaline Cagle, born 03 June 1851 in McMinn Co.,
Tennessee; died in Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., TN. She married Joseph
Harrison Bayles in McMinn Co., TN.
Notes for Margaret Evaline Cagle:
Margaret Evaline applied June 1908 to the Guion Miller Roll of the
Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Most of the information we have is
from this application. She states her father's brother was Riley
Cagle, the one who died in the civil war. William Ulysses Cagle, her
brother also stated that his father's
name was Riley. Margaret Evaline's application refers to William Ulysses
as Julius.
More About Joseph Bayles and Margaret Cagle:
Marriage: McMinn Co., TN
4 iii. Henry W Cagle, born 1853 in Tennessee; died 1894 in Dade Co., GA.
He married Sallie.
Notes for Henry W Cagle:
A Henry W Cagle was employed by the Hughes Lumber Co in Chattanooga, TN
as a carpenter in 1890-91.
It is not known if this is the same person. The following information
was provided by Sue Forrester
at <sueforrester(a)hotmail.com>. " There was also an obit and death
certificate for Henry Cagle. He was buried in Dade County GA., the county
in which we live. Steve (my husband) and I have recorded every burial
site we can find in Dade County, so I couldn't wait to get home to check
it out. I couldn't understand why he lived in Chattanooga but was buried
here. His grave is unmarked but there is a marked graved for MARK CAGLE
the son of H.W. & S. Cagle who died in 1894. So, Henry must have lived in
Dade Co for a while anyway.

Burial: 1894, Dade Co., GA
5 iv. John T Cagle, born May 1859 in Tennessee; died in Chattanooga,
Hamilton Co., TN. He married (1) Unknown. He married (2) Mattie Hughes;
born 30 June 1886; died in Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., TN.
6 v. Jacob C Cagle, born 22 February 1862 in Tennessee.
Notes for Jacob C Cagle:
A Jacob Cagle worked for the Hughes Lumber Co in Chattanooga and so did a
Henry W Cagle who is
a brother to this Jacob. Both were carpenters.
7 vi. Rebecca Jane Cagle, born 1864 in Bradley Co., Tennessee. She
married John Miller.
Notes for Rebecca Jane Cagle:
The following information was extracted from a message from
<sueforrester(a)hotmail.com> who is
researching this line:
" I also found an obit and TN death certificate for Rebecca Jane Cagle
Miller. It listed the cemetery in Hamilton Co where she was buried and
she does have a tombstone or did when this record was made in 1939."
More About Rebecca Jane Cagle:

8 vii. Nancy Cagle, born 23 August 1966 in Bradley Co., Tennessee. She
married Unk True.
9 viii. William Ulysses Cagle, born 13 February 1869 in Bradley County,
Tennessee. He married Daisey.
Notes for William Ulysses Cagle:
A recently found rejected claim from the Guion Miller roll of the Eastern
Cherokee filed by William U. Cagle states that he was born 13 Feb 1869 in
Bradley7 Co., TN and at the time of the claim was filed,
(Mar 1907), living in Birmingham, Jefferson Co., AL. He was married to
Daisey.

Hello
I probably have some of Jacob's DNA in my make up so I have been
mostly looking at him and his son Henry and grandson Henry P.
My point is that I have seen it noted several times that Jacob made
his will in 1836 there in Warren Co. TN, but I have never seen a
published copy of that will. I have written to the Historian in Warren
Co a Ms Majors, and she was not able to find or help in locating a copy
of said will. I also find it curious that the folk is Warren Co have a
list of Rev. War Soldiers, but that list does not have Jacob on it. I
have written to the Historical Society in Warren Co about this but
without response.
I assume that everyone is sure that the Jacob, son of David, is the
Rev War Solder that is so prominently noted in the book Cagle book
"Cagles of the Deep South to 1850, Vol. I. Can any one comment on the
Will etc..

PS I will be gone for 2 weeks and am going to break in a new computer
with a different operation system so it may be awhile before I learn to
shift the gears. I have enjoyed the discussion and look forward to
where is goes. As the interchange gets to the 1850s and beyond, I have
question and thoughts to toss out.

Hi Gary,
Thank you for the email. I have been traveling and just got around to
reading my email. Actually I am encouraged by the Leonard discussion that is
going on right now. I truly believe that is the way we learn. On the other
hand, do not abandon your work until you are satisfied beyond question that
your are wrong. The Leonards were very difficult and I worked on them for a
long time until I was comfortable with the line up in the book. I have always
considered there may be errors in my book and I will be the first to
congratulate the one who unquestionably documents that which is correct. The
following two paragraphs are in the front pages of the book:
"My great joy in working on my family history has been in doing the
research, all of the wonderful people I have met along the way and learning
the circumstances that led my parents to be where they were when I was born.
This work is not nearly finished, there seems never to be a good place to
stop. Now at age seventy, it is time for me set out what I have learned about
the Cagle Family over the last twenty years, and sincerely hope it will
benefit others researching this family. There is yet much work to be done
and I make no pretense that this book is a complete genealogy and history of
the Cagle family in America."
"Errors and Corrections
This writer sincerely believes he has given his best effort in compiling
this book. It is extensively documented with historical data and first hand
knowledge. Conclusions were sometimes necessarily drawn from a preponderance
of the evidence available. The research on this book could have continued on
for years. There is much yet to be learned. It is my decision to publish
this book at this point, after many years of research, in order to share the
fruits of my labors with others. Any information regarding corrections or
additions to this book will be gratefully received..."
There are so many varying versions of our Cagle family lines floating
around out there. There was never any easily accessible standard of
reference for working on those variations and that was one of the
consideration for going ahead and publishing my book. Now we have a target.
I have set out the argument. Let us hear the rebuttal.

Gary,
It's a long shot, but there was a Nancy Elliot Cagle, b. 1855 in Tippah
Co., MS whose father
was Abraham Cagle. Abraham moved to Woodruff Co., AR where he later
died. I do not
show a husband for Nancy. This is the only Nancy I have who was born in
1855 and known
to be in Arkansas.

I am a descendant of Leonard C. Cagle (1798-1866) from his son Charles
Hughey Cagle who moved from Henderson Co., NC to Louisville MS in 1850.
Charles was the oldest son and the middle name of Hughey has led me for
many years to speculate that Leonard C. Cagleâs mother was a
Hughey. Just a guess - can't prove either Leonard's mother or father -
but there is no Osborne-Hughey connection. Two sheriffs in Buncombe Co.
NC during the 1790âs were named John and James Hughey. I know
nothing more about these men.
Jimmy B. Cagleâs new book, "Cagle Families in the Southern
States", page 7 gives the will of Jacob Cagle (ca 1770-1836) who died in
Barry Co. MO. Two witnesses to this will were William and John Hughey.
Does anyone on the list have any information on these Hugheys? Were they
related to these Cagles?
Regards,
Dana Meara
------------------------------
Dana & List,
Sounds like you may have found an important
clue.
Hughey, is uncommon for a middle name but not so for a surname.
To honor her family she may have done just that. Thus, naming a son with
a middle name that carries her family name.
Dana, good detective work on this important clue. :) Although I can't
help with the Cagle and
Hughey connection, surely someone can.

Hi Group
here is what I have on David's family line: I know there are errors. Do not
work on these upper lines very much

Descendants of Johan Theobald "David" Kegel Cagle
Generation No. 1
1. Johan Theobald "David" Kegel2 Cagle ((Leonhart Kegell ) Leonard1)
was born April 29, 1728 in Obermehlingen, Germany, and died April 01, 1793 in
Moore County, North Carolina. He married Katherine (Unknown) Cagle Abt. 1739
in Moore County, North Carolina. She was born 1720 in Moore County, North
Carolina, and died in Moore County, North Carolina.
Notes for Johan Theobald "David" Kegel Cagle:
David's trip to North Carolina;
Some of the Cagle's including David 1728 -1850, traveled to North Carolina
on the Great Philadelphia Wagon Road, some called it the Old Salem Road.
When the first census was taken in 1790, there were ten Cagle families living
in Moore County, North Carolina .

land near the same time in early 1764, David's by land entry (April 21, )
and John's purchase from James Cheney (Feb. 3). David's entry shows that
his tract of 100 Acres lay "about a quarter of a mile from " John Caygills,
Plantation " John was situated at the forks of Bear and Cavin Creeks (where
he remained until his death in 1799). David was situated on Flat Creek, which
appently was a small tributary of either Bear or Cavin Creek. David's survey,
of 100 acres, dose not seem to border directly on any previously owned land,
and county, seems to have been sparsely populated at that early date. in
1769, David sold is track of land to William Smith, and moved westward to

David Cagle is known to have ties to three North Carolina regions: (1) Old
Rowan County, 1760, and perhaps also 1750s. Probably lived somewhere along
Deep River, either in Randolph of Guilford, was on tax list, sometime in
1760s, with son John , (2) Old Cumberland County, had land paten at forks
of Bear and Cabin Creeks in 1767, which he sold in 1769. (3) Cabarrus
County, then part of Mecklenburg, had land entry in 1779, maybe died there
in 1780s.

taught to farm, on June 2, 1908, Greorge was sent out about a quater of a
mile from our house to toll up the brush heaps for burning, about 10:00 a.m.
George cagme running to the house very scared and excited, he enter the
front door calling "Aunt Claudia" where is Dellia. My mother replieded,
she is playing in the back yard.
No No said George exclaimed, she is an angel ! she has on a white robe and
she has wings, I saw her flying from one brush to another, it was Dellia, I
know it was . He ran to the back yard looking for Dellia, she was playing
and Geroge saw her there, and nothing was wrong, yet he was convinced that he
seen her as an angel. On June 4th. just two days after George's illusion,
Dellia became ill, and on June 9th she was claimed by death .

I am a descendant of Leonard C. Cagle (1798-1866) from his son Charles Hughey
Cagle who moved from Henderson Co., NC to Louisville MS in 1850. Charles was
the oldest son and the middle name of Hughey has led me for many years to
speculate that Leonard C. Cagle’s mother was a Hughey. Just a guess - can't
prove either Leonard's mother or father - but there is no Osborne-Hughey
connection. Two sheriffs in Buncombe Co. NC during the 1790’s were named John
and James Hughey. I know nothing more about these men.
Jimmy B. Cagle’s new book, "Cagle Families in the Southern States", page 7
gives the will of Jacob Cagle (ca 1770-1836) who died in Barry Co. MO. Two
witnesses to this will were William and John Hughey. Does anyone on the list
have any information on these Hugheys? Were they related to these Cagles?

Hi,
I was just looking through my Beauchamp file and found where in 1884, my
gr-gf Beauchamp's brother Palestine Beauchamp, age 58, married Nancy
CAGLE age 29, in Howard County AR.
This Nancy is not of Joseph Cagle's line but she has to be a close
family member. My gr-grandmother, Molly Ward was the dau of Nancy Cagle
and Wm H Ward and a grandaughter of Joseph, they moved from Polk Co
after 1870 and settled in Howard Co before moving to Pike Co AR.
Does anyone know where this Nancy Cagle belongs. Thanks.

From the church record book of Sembach, Germany; Johan Theobald Kegel was
the son of Leonhard and Susanna Kegel. Johan Theobald was born 29 April
1728, and baptized 1 May 1728. "Theobald" in Greek form is the name for
David which is also"Dewalt" in German. Pennsylvania records also, refer
to David as "Dewalt". He later began using the Anglo-Saxon name of David
Cagle; therefore, Johan Dewalt Theobald Kegel became David Cagle.
Sponsors at David's baptizing were Theobold Fuchs and wife Christina from
Alsenborn, Germany and Andrusa Busch from Trippstadt, Germany.
Some of the Cagle's including David traveled to North Carolina on the
Great Philadelphia Wagon Road, some called it the Old Salem Road. When
the first Census was taken in 1790, there were ten Cagle families living
in Moore County, North Carolina. David did not remain long in Cumberland
County for
on Jul 20, 1769 he sold his tract of 100 acres which he had bought in
1764 to William Smith; after leaving Cumberland Co., David lived for a
period of time in Rowan County before settling permanently on the Rocky
River in old Mecklenburg (present Cabarrus) County, NC.
David and his presumed brother, John Dutchman Cagle, acquired land near
the same time in early 1764,
David's by land entry and John's purchased from James Cheney (Feb 3,
1764). David's entry shows that his tract of 100 acres lay "about a
quarter of a mile from John Caygills, Plantation". John was situated
at the forks of Bear and Cabin Creeks (where he remained until his death
in 1799). David was situated on Flat Creek, which apparently was a small
tributary of either Bear or Cabin Creek. David's survey, of 100 acres
does not seem to border directly on any previously owned land, and
county, seems to have been sparsely populated at that early date. David
made his Land Entry and received his Warrant for SSurvey on April 21,
1764, made his Survey on July 5, 1764, and received his land Grant on
April 25, 1767, as recorded on Land Grant Book No.23, page 24. In 1769,
David sold his track of land to William Smith, and moved westward to what
is now Cabarrus County, NC.
David is known to have ties to three North Carolina Regions: (1) Old
Rowan County, 1760, and perhaps also 1750s. Probably lived somewhere
along Deep River, either in Randolph or Guilford, was on the tax
list sometime in the 1760s with son John, (2) Old Cumberland County, had
land patent at forks of Bear and Cabin Creeks in 1767, which he sold in
1769. (3) Cabarrus County, then part of Mecklenburg, had land entry in
1779, maybe died there in 1793.

Cuz Gary,
I thought my Leonard's father was Charles; however, after reading Jimmy
B's
latest book which was reviewed by John G and passed- on, I had to relent
to
Jimmy's theory of John. Also, his source and reference material was
overpowering.
Since, John G. is directly descended from Leonard as are you and I, I am
sure he
would have made note of something so glaring as his own family's error
before
publication.
At any rate, I am going to leave it to Jimmy B to respond to this which
is why I
included the list as an info copy. He has it in one of John G.'s books
and I think it
was one of the more recent books where he is discussing Leonard.
I do not show Charles as a son of David. I do have a Charles d. 1801,
Stanley Co.,
NC as one of the sons of Leonhart Kegel.
In the 1830 Federal Census, living in Chattooga County Georgia, was
Leonard Cagle, age 70. We will pick up Leonards story at this point,
because as we will soon see, he was the direct ancestor of our Cagles.
Leonard was born in or near the year 1780, probably Moore, Montgomery or
Mecklinburg County, North Carolina. By the year 1803, Leonard was
married and living in Lincoln County, NC, a short distance to the west of
the town of Charlotte. By 1816, he had moved to Haywood County, near the
town of Asheville, where he remained until the 1820s. At that time he
moved to Georgia, and was living in Henry County, outside of Atlanta, in
1827 and the 1830 Federal Census. By 1850, he had moved to Chattooga
County, near the Alabama line not far from Rome. Leonard was a wagon
maker by trade, according to the 1850 Federal Census.
Leonard was born in North Carolina, during the era of the Revolutionary
War, in or near the year 1780. He is first known to have appeared in
records in 1803, when he acquired land in old Lincoln (now Catawba)
County, NC, where he lived until 1816, then moved westward to Haywood
County, NC. He remained in Haywood until the 1820s then moved to Georgia
where he settled permanently with his four sons who all lived near him
until the 1850s. Leonard also, had four or five daughter; however, it is
not known at this time what their disposition is due to the early
censuses which only included names of head of households. Leonard and
family may have lived briefly in Franklin Co., in the 1820s before moving
to Henry County. He settled near his cousin, David Cagle, 1767-1852, who
moved from Montgomery Co., NC about 1816. After removeal of the indians
from Cherokee Nation in northern Georgia, prompted by the discovery of
gold there, Leonard and family was on the move again. They settled in
what is now Haralson County where another of Leonard's cousins, Jacob
1790-1840s had settled at least prior to the 1837 special census.
Leonards first appearance in what is now Haralson County, was his
inclusion on the regular census of 1840 and 1850. It is known that he
constructed a log house in present Haralson County in abt 1837 with the
help of Benjamin, his son. This home and land passed to Benjamin on his
death for there are no land records of Benjamin having purchased them.
The area where the homestead was located was at one time Cherokee Co,
changed to Paulding, changed to Polk and finally to Haralson County in
1857. So, while it appears the Cagles were moving, actually the county
lines were changing. Paulding was formed from Cherokee in 1837, Polk was
formed from parts of Paulding in 1851, then finally Haralson was formed
in 1857 from part of Polk and Paulding counties. By 1850, Leonard had
moved north to Chattooga County and was listed on the census there with
sons Jacob and Benjamin. Another son, Joseph lived in adjoining Floyd
County. The fourth son, John F had moved to Clarke County, Miss. The
other Jacob whom some confuse with Leonards son Jacob, b. 1804, whom I
have identified above as a cousin was most likely a younger brother or a
nephew of Leonard's.
Though, Leonard left Haralson County sometime before 1850, he retained
the homestead. A document exists in Paulding County naming a local
lawyer to act in his stead with the management of the property by special
power of attorney. The 1850 Census was the last appearance of Leonard on
record. Benjamin moved back to Haralson County in the 1850s. It is not
known if Leonard died in Chatooga Co or if he moved back to Haralson with
Benjamin so, his date and place of death as of this writing is still
unknown. I suspect he died in Chattooga which is probably what prompted
Benjamin's move back to the homestead in Haralson. Most likely, he is
buried somewhere in Chattooga since he is not in the Little River
Cemetery on the Haralson County homestead where Benjamin and Parthena are
buried. By the time of the 1860 census, Jacob had moved to nearby
Cherokee Co., AL and later moved to Polk County, AR about 1862. This
posibility might be strengthened by the fact that Leonard's widow, Nancy,
and her son, Francis M Cagle, were enumerated in the 1880 census near
Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama.
Does this clear it up a little for you or is it even more confusing.

In past emails to you I sought out information from you, but received
none. Expect to indicate that you were a descendant of one of Leonard

Tom & List,
First of all we need a way to seperate the two
of you. Both of you being named Tom Cagle,
has caused some confusion.
So if the two of you can decide on something,
this will help me and the list.
I of course can identify which one of you has
posted to our list.
But I am affraid there may be some on our list
a bit confused.
Tom, myself and the other Tom, share some
of the same ancestors.

I hope this data helps answer your questions.
If you would like additional data I will gladly
supply it.
I am sorry to say I have done little research on
Leonhart's daughters.
So I will leave this area to those of you who
know.

Hi Tom,
I don't think Tom @ tool city meant anything detrimental to your
research. I, too have
Mary and Nancy Ann as daughters of Leonard. Both died in Bedford Co., VA
? I think
he just wants to know the source of this information. I show that Mary
married an Echols
and Nancy Ann married a Bookout, is this what you have. Also, I got my
information from
one of Cagle Journals which would have to be recent since I have only
received Journals
the past three years.
This is the first five generations of George Cagle Sr as I know them to
be. If you have
anything different or something to add, please let me know. I would like
my information
to be as accurate as possible.

died the same year leaving Zana with
nine minor children, four under 10 yrs of age. He was earlier listed in
the Montgomery County, NC
census for 1800; Carroll County, TN for 1840 and 1850, then Benton
County, TN by his widow, Mazana.
There is a tombstone of John Cagle, 1780-1858, founder of the head of the
Cagle Families of Carroll/Benton County areas, on a hillside in the
Hendon Cemetery, in Northern Benton County, Tennessee where he and his
wife Mazana Hendon Cagle are buried. On the reverse side of the
tombstone are inscribed the names of 11 children of John and Mazana.
This is one of the few Cagle tombstones in America which carries such a
complete family record. John's father was David who
arrived in America from Germany in 1732 with his father Leonhart Kegel.
Seven of the eight sons
of John eventually made their way to Illinois, with William Leonard,
Charles, Thomas and David,
settling in Johnson County, George W in Union County, Illinois. Only

Hello,
Hello to those of you that I am communicating with for the first time but it
should be evident once you begin reading the information below as to why I
have contacted you. Some of you I have run across via your websites
featuring information on some of the following. Some of you have been
reading some of my emails regarding the following on the various genealogy
lists and some of you I have been corresponding with directly previously.
This email is a bit lengthy but I do believe that it will provide some clues
with which we might connect some important missing information.
Okay...there is more that connects these various lines.....so if I may beg
your patience once again to read through the following information, it just
might be enough to solve some much sought out mysteries and their
clarification. There are names mentioned further into the email that I have
not found nor mentioned before.
After looking at extensive amounts of information regarding various branches
of lineage of the surnames of MYRICK - PIERCE - HERRINGTON - DICKERSON - FURR
- STUTTS - CAGLE - MILLS it is obvious that there are so many varying
recognized and unrecognized connections with my branches of MYRICK - PIERCE -
HERRINGTON - DICKSON/DICKERSON - STUCKEY lines that appear to have been out
of VA and NC, prob. Moore Co., ?SC?, before some of them are known to have
been in GA up until abt. 1820 when my MYRICK - PIERCE were, briefly, in AL en
route migrating to Mississippi where they probably arrived in abt. 1822 or so
where my 3rd great grandparents, Elizabeth PIERCE, born: 1790 in SC,
(parents: ??,) and her husband, William MYRICK, born: bef. 1790 in ?/GA
prob., (parents: ??,) were the parents of my 2nd great grandfather: William
H. "Bill/Billy" MYRICK, born: 1827 in Jasper Co., MS, who married Phoebe
Catherine HERRINGTON, born: 1834, (mother: Cynthia/Sina? GRANTHAM, born:
abt. 1800 in SC/NC, (border?,) and father: William HERRINGTON, Jr., born:
abt. 1794 in New Hanover Co., NC, (father: William HERRINGTON, Sr., (Rev.
War,) born: bef. 1755 in Craven Co., NC,)) and they were the parents of my
great grandfather, Calvin Pierce "Callie" MYRICK, born: 1858 in Jasper Co.,
MS, who married his 3rd cousin, Harriet Kaqtherine "Hattie"
HERRINGTON/HARRINGTON, born: 1868, (mother: Rebecca Jane DICKERSON/DICKSON,
born: abt. 1826, (mother: ??, father: ??,) and father: Isom/Isham Daniel
HERRINGTON, born: Dec 1828 in Lawrence or Covington Co., MS, (his 2nd was
Sarah E. COLEMAN,) (mother: Harriet STUCKEY, born: abt. 1802, father:
Enoch HERRINGTON, born: abt. 1795 in New Hanover Co., NC, (father: William
HERRINGTON, Sr., (Rev. War,) born: bef. 1755 in Craven Co., NC.)
The above mentioned Isom/Isham Daniel HERRINGTON was the brother of William
Franklin HERRINGTON who married Tabitha Priscilla CAGLE, daughter of Green
Berry CAGLE. And there is a MYRICK - CAGLE - MILLS family from Moore Co., NC
who migrated to Mena, Polk Co., Arkansas.
There are so many connections and possibilities for connections including the
above mentioned CAGLE and MYRICK and MILLS and FURR surnames/connected
families who are related out of Moore Co., NC and were later in Mena, Polk
Co., Arkansas that were from the Elijah CAGLE and Nancy Elizabeth MILLS
family including their grandson, I believe, who was Dr. Spencer MYRICK.
I think the name of Dr. Spencer MYRICK's father may have been James MYRICK
but could be something else and Dr. Spencer MYRICK may have had either a
brother or a son or some relative in Mena that was named James MYRICK and
might have been called "Pink" or there may be another relative called and/or
named "Pink," perhaps short for "Pinckney" as appears along with the names of
Spencer, James, John and Calvin as frequent names in particular MYRICK family
branch that I believe is related to that Mena MYRICK branch.
Also in Mena, Polk Co., Arkansas in the early 1900's is a David Luke MYRICK,
(also known as "T. Texas TYLER," whose father was named James MYRICK, I
think, and may have called/nicknamed "Pink" MYRICK according to my
information.
Then in my branch, my 2nd great grandfather, William H. "Billy" MYRICK, born:
1827 in Jasper Co., MS, son of Elizabeth PIERCE and William MYRICK, had
another son named Jeremiah MYRICK. William H. "Billy" MYRICK and his wife,
Phoebe Catherine HERRINGTON, my 2nd great grandparents, named one of their
sons, Jeremiah Pinckney "Jerry/Pink" MYRICK, who was the brother of my great
grandfather, Calvin Pierce "Callie" MYRICK, born: 1858 in Jasper Co., MS.
My 3rd great grandmother, Elizabeth PIERCE, born: 1790 in South Carolina,
whose parents are not known at this time, was probably in Georgia at some
time after birth but that is strictly speculation as her 1st born son,
Aquilla MYRICK, is thought to have been born there in abt. 1814 in Georgia
and it is possible that his name was James MYRICK and his wife was named
BENNETT.
I am wondering if my PIERCE lineage and my lineage from the above mentioned
DICKERSON/DICKSON is in anyway, as I suspect, connected to the PIERCE and
DICKERSON lines that married into the above mentioned FURR - MILLS - CAGLE
families.
I show that there was a Mary Jane DICKSERSON, born: 1839 in Lawrence Co.,
MS. My 2nd great grandmother, Rebecca Jane DICKERSON/DICKSON, was born in
abt. 1826, and she married Isom/Isham Daniel HERRINGTON/HARRINGTON, who was
born in Dec 1828 in either Lawrence or Covington Co., MS where many other
family members/groups lived. Isom's brother, William Franklin HERRINGTON, is
the one that married Tabitha Priscilla CAGLE, daughter of Green Berry CAGLE.
The above mentioned Mary Jane DICKERSON was the daughter of William
DICKERSON, born: 1809 in Tennessee, and his wife, Amanda Melvina FURR, born:
1821 in Lincoln Co., MS, and their children were Florence Eudora, Mary Jane,
Eleanor, William Caleb, and R. E., all born between bef. 1841 through 1844
and, apparently, all or most were born in Lawrence Co., MS. There are other
DICKERSON's in Attala Co., MS where Isom/Isham Daniel HERRINGTON's father,
Enoch HERRINGTON, later lived. I believe Enoch's wife, Harriet STUCKEY, my
3rd great grandmother was still living at that time.
The above mentioned Amanda Melvina FURR, born: 1821 in Lincoln Co., MS, was
the daughter of Mary M. PIERCE, born: 03 Sep 1798 in Wilkes Co., Georgia,
died: 22 Oct 1871 in Lincoln Co., MS, buried at Hurston Lee (Furr - Pierce)
Cemetery, Lincoln Co., MS, (who were her parents?,) and her father was D.
Henry FURR, born: 15 March 1790, md: 1815 in GA, mother: Elizabeth STUTTS,
born: 1753 in Moore Co., NC, and father: Leonard FURR, born: abt. 1758 in
Cold Water Creek, Anson Province, NC.
As I said, I think my Elizabeth PIERCE was in Georgia sometime not too very
long after her birth. Is it possible that she was the sister of the above
mentioned woman named Mary M. PIERCE, born: 03 Sep 1798 in Wilkes Co., GA?
Some of Elizabeth PIERCE's children and granchildren married into the
BENNETT, STINSON, BYRD, LOWE, RUNNELS, ANDERSON, POOLE, PARKER, LEWIS
families among others.
There is another MYRICK branch out of Moore Co., NC believed to be descended
from the Owen and Francis MYRICK and Susannah CARROLL lines that features men
named Calvin and James MYRICK that also is related to CAGLE and STUTTS
families in Moore Co., NC.
Children of the aforementioned Mary M. PIERCE and D. Henry FURR were:
Fannie FURR
Henry FURR
Anderson FURR
Olivia Hodges FURR
Amanda Melvina FURR
Pearl FURR
Mary FURR
Benjamin Franklin FURR
John J. FURR
Cynthia FURR
Martha Jane FURR
William Rankin FURR
What MYRICK and PIERCE families were in the Wilkes Co., Georgia area at the
time of the above mentioned Mary M. PIERCE in 1798? That may be a
tremendously big clue.
Also, in the connecting info to these PIERCE - FURR people mentioned above is
another PIERCE individual named Anderson PIERCE who married Etta DOUGLAS and
there is a Catherine "Katie" PIERCE, born: 17 Jan/June 1792 in Wilkes Co.,
GA or Burke Co., GA who died: 10 Dec 1882 in Brookhaven, Lincoln Co., MS and
is buried in the Little Bahala Baptist Church that she helped found in
Lawrence Co., MS, making me think that she is connected to the above
mentioned Mary M. PIERCE and my Elizabeth PIERCE. This Catherine "Katie"
PIERCE married Christian Jacob FURR, born: 15 Aug 1792 in Moore Co., NC and
married in 20 Oct 1812 in Franklin Co., GA.
Some of this info comes from Nancy BALMER and other researchers in these
lines.
The children of Christian Jacob FURR and Catherine "Katie" PIERCE are shown
as:
Emily FURR
George Washington FURR
William FURR
Mary FURR
Joel Harvey FURR
Joseph W. FURR
Nancy Jane FURR
Randall Pierce FURR
Francis Marion FURR
Lott FURR
Christian Lafayette FURR
James Monroe FURR
(all born bet. 1813 in Wilkes Co., GA and 1838 in Lawrence Co., MS,)
I wonder if there is, also, a LOTT family connection as my LOTT family and
descent out of Isle of Wight Co., VA into North Carolina into Old Spanish
Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and then into Louisiana on my mother's HATTEN -
LOTT side of the family is also married into my father's MYRICK -
HERRINGTON/HARRINGTON - GRANTHAM side of the family.
And the above mentioned FURR families with Catherine FURR married on 05 Dec
1831 in Cabarrus Co., NCc, to Harwood Washington CAGLE, born: 1809 in NC,
and died: 1865 in Pope Co., Arkansas. And there's a Hettie FURR who married
Jasper Leon CAGLE.
There is somewhere in connecting information to this PIERCE and FURR family
above a Norman Wayne FURR that is married to Mary Ella AINSWORTH who might or
might not be related to the AINSWORTH family of my uncle by marriage, A. Leon
AINSWORTH, who married my aunt, my father's sister, Ellen Grace MYRICK, who
was born in Simpson Co., MS near Magee, and is descended from the above Isom
Daniel HERRINGTON and his 1st wife, Rebecca Jane DICKERSON who were Ellen
Grace MYRICK (AINWORTH's) great grandparents. The names of BARLOW and BYRD
also show up in the above mentioned PIERCE and FURR families as they do in
our MYRICK - HERRINGTON - GRANTHAM - PIERCE - STUCKEY families.
It gets very confusing but I am trying to sort it out. But I do believe that
my particular MYRICK - PIERCE - DICKERSON - HERRINGTON - STUCKEY missing
pieces are wrapped up in these families mentioned above.
In advance, I thank you for any help you might be able to give in solving
these mysteries.
Sincerely,
Bellinda Myrick - Barnett
