Good Afternoon List,
I know that there are some on the list who had families that lived in
Arkansas that might want to consider posting their family group sheets
that involve your Arkansas connections. Go to the address posted below
and copy and paste the form, fill it out and e-mail back to them.
Instructions are on the site. It is another way to get our history
available to more people. Thanks.

My name is Dana Meara and I am a long time Cagle researcher. My descent is
from Leonard Cagle (1798-1866) and Mary Osborne (1797-1869) through their
oldest son, Charles Hughey Cagle who was born in Henderson Co., NC but moved
to Winston Co. MS in 1850. My Grandmother, Eululia Cagle, daughter of Charles
Cagle and Margaret Richardson, married Euel Costiloe and moved first to TX
and then Indian Territory. Will be happy to share anything I have on this
family.
My main question right now is who Nancy Cagle, daughter of Leonard and Mary
Osborne Cagle, married. She would have married in Henderson Co. NC. Did she
marry John Summey, as many researchers state, or did she marry John Cox and
live in Greenville, SC? Any help appreciated.
Dana
Hi Cagle Cousins,
I am looking for some help if anyone has information on these Cagles. I
belong to the Chambers -L mail list also, and received the following query
from Randy Chambers of our group there. I don't have any of the Chambers
family and Cagles intermarried in my database, but they were all in the
same general areas of SC, GA, and NC, at the same times.
============================
"Just came across some info that I would like to ask you about. My uncle
Robert William Chambers' wife was Wilma Netha Cagle, born in Waynesville, NC
and the daughter of Jerry Lee Cagle and Corda M. Moore Cagle. Do any of
these names fit in with any of your family. Her brothers were William J.
Cagle, Edward Cagle of Atlanta and sister Clara Walker. Still looking."
Thanks, Randy"

Also, I am a member iof the Transylvania OneList mail group for North
Carolina. This group now has many members who are very actively searching
connections to families there. Names involved are Glazener, Allison,
Tinsley, Bracken, among many others, and yes, Cagles too.
Two of our members are having a hard time locating material relating to a
Nancy Cagle. See Dana's letter below:

"Subject: To The List - Help on NANCY CAGLE
Those of us who are working to straighten out just who that NANCY
CAGLE, daughter of LEONARD (1798-1866) and MARY OSBORNE (1797-1869)
married - SUMMEY or COX. Is there anyone who has the Estate Papers
for Leonard and Mary? Don't think anything was probated until after
Mary Osborne Cagle's death in 1869. Leonard and Mary died in
Transylvania Co. Is there a quick and/or online way to get this
information or must we go the usual Court House route? Thanks.
Dana Meara"
==========================
Dana Meara and Eddie Cox have been
actively searching this Cagle family for some time now. Can anyone here
help? I appreciate any assistance.
I have invited Dana to join our group and will ask Eddie also today. They
are both active Cagle researchers.
Best wishes, Doyle

I have been looking for information on Joseph Cagle and Anna Dodson,
thinking that they were my ggrandfather's parents. On obtaining his death
certificate, his mother is listed as Sarah with no maiden name. This info
was provided by his 2nd wife, and I'm not sure how accurate her information
was. So I guess what I'm asking is--does anyone have information on a
Joseph and Sarah Cagle? They would probably have been born in the
1840's-Joseph in NC and Sarah in Tenn. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Earl, Thanks for your recommendation to send for the SS Application for my Grandfather, Benjamin Jackson Cagle. (Family records show his full name to be Benjamin Jackson Alexander Cagle.) I received this application in yesterday's mail. Information as follows:
Name, Benjamin Jackson Cagle
Address, 2102 Bryan Ave., Granite City, Ill
Wife, Precious Zuba Shaw
Age, 49
Birthdate, October 12, 1891
Birthplace, Savanah, Hardin County, Tenn
Father, Columbus Sylvester Cagle
Mother, Tempie Ann Whitlow
Sex, male
Race, White
Signature date, Jan. 1, 1941
David, you are correct, from this information, Benjamin Cagle was not born in Cerro Gordo as the family records show. And as you suggested, I am now wondering if Precious Zuba Shaw is possibly the one who was born at Cerro Gordo. Our family records shows that she was the one born at Savannah.
I am hoping that someone on the list can tell me how I can get a copy of the Birth certificate for Benjamin Jackson Cagle. Is it better to try on the County level or at the State level for Tennessee. Does anyone on the list have access to the birth records for Hardin County?
Family information also show that Benjamin Jackson Cagle and Precious Zuba Shaw were married at Savannah, TN. They were married in 1911. Does anyone on the list have access to the marriage records from there.
Any more suggestions that you might have for me in obtaining source documents to help me prove/disprove information for this family would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi,
I'm new to this list. I'm a descended from a Jacob Joseph Kegel who was born
20 Nov 1817 in Seckenheim Grand Duchy of Baden and came to Pittsburgh Pa in
late 1850's. He was married to Christina Regina Wihlemena Markel and they had
9 children with seven surviving. My paternal gr-grandmother was Minnie b Nov
5 1861. I am trying to find anyone who is related to any of the children:
George, Lena, Joseph, Lewis, Jacob, Jr. or Louise. I was wondering if anyone
has ever heard or found any reference to this family. Jacob died in May of
1870 and his wife quickly remarried a man who was abusive to her and her
children. Minnie and Louise were only ones who stayed in Pgh area. I have
found most of my information from court and church records. I would
appreciate any leads Thanks Joyce Thompson
Hello all,
The state of Tennessee now has the index for
Pension Applications. These were made in some
cases by the soliders, and later by their widows.

Oklahoma. Thank you for your time.
David & List,
No, you are still a subscriber to the list. There has
been very little activity for awhile though.
The list has allways been on the quiet side. Maybe
your posting will drum up some interest.
Earl
Is the Cagle List Dead? Have I been unsubscribed. Where is the Cagle
activity?
There was an 1833 census of Tennessee, listing all males over 21. In Hardin
County there were 5 Cagles listed, two of which I cannot identify. The
numbers represent the order in which the census taker wrote down the names.
No. 430 Henry Cagle
431 George Cagle
432 Henry Cagle Sr
The above are Henry Cagle Sr. (3), son of David Cagle, b. 1728 Ger. (2), and
g/son of Leonard Cagle (1) the immigrant. Henry and George are two of his
three sons that settled in Hardin Co., TN in the 1820's. Also in that
census were:
No. 608 Henry Cagle
610 James Cagle
There is no other record in Hardin Co. of this Henry and James Cagle. It is
my opinion that this James Cagle could be the same as the James that is
enumerated in the 1830 census of Cabarrus Co. NC. see page 399, "The Cagle
Family In The South, To 1850, Vol. I, North Carolina" by John G. Cagle.
Likewise, Henry Cagle might be the Henry that appears back in NC in the 1840
Meckelnburg Co. Census. See "Cagle Census Records of the South, 1790 To
1850," by John G. Cagle.
While I am preaching, there is one other point I would like to make to you
Cagle purest. This 1833 Hardin County Census mentioned above definitely
locates Henry Cagle Sr. in Hardin Co. TN in 1833. He also entered land
there which was surveyed 03 July 1837. John G. Cagle, in the two books
referenced above, suggests that Henry Sr. died in Montgomery Co., NC before
1840. However, It would appear to me that Henry Cagle Sr. (3) more likely
died in Hardin Co. TN or New Madrid Co., MO between 1837-1840. I have not
seen Henry Sr. in an 1840 census. His sons, Henry Jr. and George abandoned
their land in Hardin Co., TN ca 1838 and moved to New Madrid Co. MO before
time of the 1840 census. Elizabeth, the widow of George, moved back to
Hardin Co., TN in 1840-41, however, the remainder of the family stayed in
MO.
I would like to correspond with my MO cousins if anyone sees a connection.
Thanks,
David

This following obituary was in the Daily Mountain Eagle published in Jasper,

Kathy Cagle
Kathy Cagle, 46, of Cordova (Alabama) died Friday, March 3, 2000, at her
residence. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 5, 2000, at
Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Cordova with Barry Lombard officiating. Visitation
will be tonight from 6 to 9. Collins-Burke Funeral Home will direct.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dean D. Thompson, her mother, Mary
Frances Thompson and a brother, Glen Thompson.
She is survived by her husband, Billy L. Cagle; one step-daughter, Jamie L.
Cagle; one son, Michael G. Cagle; one sister, Debra A. Watkins; two brothers,
Larry Thompson and Steve Thompson and one grandchild, Coleman Cagle.
My ggrandfather was William Henry Cagle born in North Carolina in 1866
according to his death certificate just recently obtained. It lists his
father as either Joseph L, I, or T Cagle. It's not real clear. We have
been under the assumption that his mother was either Anna or Emma, but the
death certificate lists her as Sarah. Both Joseph and Sarah were listed as
born in North Carolina. We thought we found him as Joseph and Emma Dodson
(Dotson) son, but now aren't too sure. Anyone who can help will be much
appreciated. Sylvia Harvey
