Karen & List,
After reading Karen's message again I remembered
something. Several years ago while looking for a
Cagle ancestor, I sent off to Texas for a list of death
records.
This covers reported deaths in Texas, for the period
1903 - 1940. There wasn't a listing for a Charles
Cagle, for 1908 in Dallas Co; Tx.
Of course his death record may not have been reported to the state. This
seems to have been the
case with my ancestor also.
There should have been an obituary printed in the
local newspaper. This may give some valuable data
as to his family history.
Earl
Earl, Karen and List.
Karen and I have discussed her Charles and John Cagle at length for quiet
some time, so this is not new to her. We have explored the possibility that
we are researching the same people.
In my family line, I have Henry Jr, George and Charles Cagle, sons of Henry
Cagle, Sr and g/s's of David Cagle, b.1728 Ger. who came to Hardin County
Tennessee in the 1820's. It appears that Charles was here first by 1821 and
George bought land here by 1826 and Henry Jr. came here by 1830. George and
Henry Jr. were enumerated in the 1830 census of Hardin County, while
Charles, not in the census here apparently lived in McNariry Co. adjacent
and immediately west of Hardin. I have not been able to find Charles after
1838 in McNairy Co.
1830 Census, Hardin Co., TN
Henry Cagle (Jr) 1001001-0022001
George Cagle 200001-000001 (Two males under 5 are John and Charles)
These two boys of George and Elizabeth Freeman Cagle, shown aged 0 to 5
years in the census above, were John, b. 1827 and Charles b. 1830. George
and Elizabeth later had 4 daughters as well. The family moved from Hardin
Co. TN to New Madrid Co., MO ca 1838. George was killed by a falling tree
ca 1839-40 and Elizabeth moved her family back to Hardin Co., TN in 1840-41,
where on 7th June 1841, the two boys were bound by the court to Edward
Dinkins and Thomas Gray until age 21, to learn a trade. In about June 1842,
according to court records, the boys ran away.
These two boys just about match the ancestors of Karen in just about every
way with one exception. It is not know if Charles was born in Warren Co.,
but it is very possible. The Cagles in Warren Co., TN were, by-in-large,
1st cousins of George, Henry Jr. and Charles of Hardin Co. It also appears
likely that Charles, Henry Jr. and George likely made several trips between
NC and Hardin Co., TN, taking the better part of 10 years to all get settled
here. Henry Jr. sold his holding in Cabarrus Co., in 1828. The last
migration west appears to be in the neighborhood of 1829-30. With Warren
Co. being in their path and having kin folk there, it is very feasible that
this group could have been in Warren Co. at the time of the birth of
Charles.
If anyone has something different, then we have two sets of Cagles named
John and Charles that ran away, and I can't find mine.
David Cagle
Hardin Co., TN

The info passed down to me is that my gr gr grandfather, Chas Cagle, was
born July 12, 1830 in Warren Co., TN. He died in 1908 in Dallas, TX. He
ran away from TN as a young boy. I am trying to connect him to the main
tree. Which of you is an expert on Warren Co. TN Cagles? Where would I
locate a birth record in 1830? Has anyone ever come across a couple of
Cagle boys working as Steambo at Pilots on the Mississippi River? I
don't know enought about his family to identify his in census records.
He moved around alot. He had at least 2 sons: Chas. E. and Harry.
Is this Earl's mailing list? I'm new at this so please be patient with
me. It seems I never find the list the same way twice. I have a hard
time finding you guys.
Thanks!

Here is a little information on Enoch Cagle's Civil War Service that I
have not posted to the web site yet. Enoch served in Company H of the
26th North Carolina Infantry. He enlisted in Moore Co, NC on June 3,
1861. Looking at his date of birth of 1811 and his enlistment date of
1861 he would have been in his 50s during his service...which was an
advanced age for a soldier.

========================
Tom & List,
This is another Enoch Cagle, and he was listed in
the 1850 Moore Co; NC Census.
He I beleive was a son of George Cagle. The other
Enoch Cagle, is listed in 1850 Bradley Co; Tn.
Tom, I am pretty sure there were two different Enoch Cagle's, living in
the same time period but
many miles apart.
I don't have the 1850 Moore Census record for the
other, Enoch Cagle. ( It may have been another county in NC)
Maybe someone on the list has more information.
Earl
Thank you all for responding. I have seen records in the IGI of Chas Cagle
born in 1833 in Warren Co. I understand he is also burried in Warren Co. My
gr gr grandfather was buried in 1908 in Dallas Co., TX. He would not have
been in school in 1850. If there is no birth record I cannot connect him. I
see you have all worked on this for some time. You make a much better
resource than the Historical Society.
Thank you,
