David & List,
I wasn't aware of the 1812 Davidson Co; TN
tax list. Now the question is this Jacob Cagle,
who was born 1755?
I have seen the marriage you show before.
David, how close are Waren & Davidson Cos;
to each other?
We have a Jacob, Charles, Valentine on a 1812
tax list. Plus a George, Charles, Jacob, on one
in Davidson Co.
No wonder we have such a time keeping all of
our ancestors organized.

gen my 7 year old grandson who will be watched and will be able to keep any
damage from happening. we are very lucky to know this. Know all my
grandchildren can be tested and we will know which one to watch out for. My
teatment is going very good.
Hello All,
This is my attempt at sorting out the early Cagle, men named Jacob.
Once before David Cagle, a list member and I
had discussed this.
With David, and others help I would like to see
how many there were.
>From early census records found online, these
were found. The age bracket of the first dosen't
tell us much.
I feel the Jacob, from 1790 & 1800 census records are the same.
Using the 1800 age bracket, it looks like he was
born abt. 1755. This I would say is the Jacob, who later settled in
Warren Co; Tn.
He first appears on the Warren Co; Tn; tax list of 1812. Valentine &
Charles Cagle, also are
on this same tax list.
In his Rev. War pension application he gives
a few hints. He says that he was married in 1820 in Buncombe Co; NC.
He mentions that he enlisted in Mecklenburg Co; NC. He says he lived in
Buncombe Co; NC
for 8-10 years.
Now we have a Jacob Cagle, listed in 1800 Buncombe Co; NC. This is a
younger man who
was b. 1775-1784.
The Valentine & Charles Cagle, are in the same age bracket. They were
both b. 1756-1774, and
are more than likley brothers of the elder, Jacob Cagle.
What we don't know is who is the father of the younger, Jacob?
Jacob Cagle Sr; was about 65 years old when
he married Sarah.
It is a very good bet he was married at least once before.
So he could be the father of the younger, Jacob. Then again Charles or
Valentine, could
also have been his father.
The question too is was that the younger Jacob
Cagle, who was on the 1812 Warren Co; Tn;
tax list?
Now we get to the last early NC census of 1810. This Jacob, is shown as
being b. 1785-1794. This could well be yet another one
in this Montgomery Co; census.
Looks like there is a possibility that there were
three Jacob Cagle's, b. 1755 to as late as 1794.
What are some of your opinions on this?
Earl

Good Morning All,
This morning I came across an interesting site.
One that I would like to share with all of you.
I have heard of the term Freedmen, before but
didn't know much about it.
By an act of March 3, 1865 the US Government
created the "Freedmens Bureau".
Basicaly this took over all functions, of people who were displaced by
the Civil War.
This included Indians, Blacks, and all other refugee's of the war.
This is the address of their site :
http://freedmensbureau.com/
I decided to search the site and it sent back this
one marriage.
To those who have just started there research,
be aware of this. At one time there were a few
Cagle's, who owned slaves. For my part I have
only seen a very few.
It was a pratice for some to assume there former owners surname. So
after they became
freemen, they started their new lives as "Cagle's".
There were several black men who served in the Civil War. Tom Cagle, a
list member has a
very nice Civil War website. He has a listing for
many Cagle men, who served on both sides.
There are a few on our list who also have some
Indian heritage. This site may be a valuable resourse, for those wanting
to futher their research. As most of you know, use different
variations of our surname. You may only find
a few with "Cagle", but a few more with "Kagle".
Regards,
Earl

Cagle Cousins,
The copied message below will invite any of you
who have ancestors from North Carolina, particularly Transylvania and
surrounding counties to join a group who all have interconnected roots
in this area. Several of our Cagle researchers already belong to this
fine group. It's extremely active and very productive. I personally have
been a member since it's beginning last January.
Best regards, Doyle Chambers
=====================
If you have ancestors from Transylvania Co., you may be interested in
this. Last year I with the help of a couple of other very good
researchers we created a email list that has become one of the best
mailing lists ever. Transylvania Co., NC was in 1791 Buncombe Co. being
formed from Burke & Rutherford In 1828--1851 Macon Co. included
present-day Hogback & part of Eastatoe Twp of Transylvania Co. In 1838
Henderson Co. was formed from Buncombe In1861--the present day
Transylvania County was formed from Jackson & Henderson
In just a few weeks our Transylvania County's Internet genealogy group
will celebrate its first anniversary. Our TransylvanCoGenList was
founded on January 3, 2000 and has quickly grown into Transylvania
County's largest, most active research resource. Today, almost a year
later, the group has grown to 93 members!
If numbers are an indicator of success, then this group is a smash hit.
Yesterday, December 14, was a milestone day for this research group. At
midday yesterday, the mind boggling 14,000th message was posted on the
group's e-mail list since Janaury 3, 2000!
Even more important than impressive quantity is the quality of the
individual members -- among the nicest and best researchers found
anywhere. This unique, privately owned research group was founded to
create a warm, nurturing, sharing genealogy community in which
information could flow freely between both newcomers to research and
seasoned pros. The intentions have been realized many times over.
Miraculous discoveries are the norm for this group because of the
amazing level of communication and generous sharing. There is no charge
for membership and neither is there ever a charge for the information
that is shared freely among the members. Commercial, for profit or
fee-based research activity is not permitted within the group.
TransylvanCoGenList is organized around a central vehicle of
communication, its
e-mail list. But this is not the typical e-mail list which is very
limited in scope and function. The e-mail list is linked to a
members-only website and provides an array of support services and
member benefits, such as downloadable historical files, stories,
articles, and a constantly changing display of historic photographs from
across the past of Transylvania County and from most of the old founding
pioneer families. Many group members have discovered priceless surviving
photos of direct ancestors and other family members through the
collection. As an added benefit, the group's e-mail list gladly accepts
attachments so that researchers can share large data files with the
other members. Most members have made major discoveries through reading
these shared files. 14,000 plus pieces of Transylvania County genealogy
and history are preserved in the easy to use, searchable archives
maintained on the group website as yet another valuable service for the
members. The research community functions through fair and simple
membership policies and guidelines that are nothing more than good
manners and common sense. To preserve the sanctity and well being of
this research community, all potential members must agree to abide by
these policies before being accepted into the group and must work within
our simple lines for continued membership. The group and its very unique
approach is not for everyone, but for those wanting the richest and
broadest possible experience exploring the past of Transyvlania County
and its people, this is the very best resource available. Immediately
following the holidays, the members of TransylvanCoGenList will begin a
group-wide project to reintroduce themselves to one another as well as
reintroduce their ancestors and lines. There's no better time for a new
member to come aboard and be on hand for the detailed reintroductions.
It's like starting the list all over again and giving everyone a chance
to be a part of it all from the beginning.
Just to name a few, among the many surnames represented in the group are
Aiken, Allison, Anders, Alexander, Ashworth, Allen, Breese, Ashe,
Barnett, Batson, Beard, Baird, Barton, Brevard, Bird/Byrd, Bishop,
Bagwell, Blythe, Bowen, Bracken, Brown, Bryson, Butler, Burrell, Bowen,

A couple of times in the past I have come across a mention of the Cagle
family in some of my grandfather's writings, and shared them with the
list. My grandfather, J.E. Cline, was the son of Martha (Patsy) Cagle,
who was the daughter of John Cagle Sr. who lived in Cherokee County, GA.
John was the son of Peter Cagle and Rachel Boling.
I have just found another, although minor, mention I thought I would
share.
In this story, he was writing about a hurricane which occurred in
Cherokee County around 1887, a year before his birth. So obviously the
story he tells is second hand; but more importantly, it shows how upset
the people were by this phenomenon, since they were speaking about it so
long after his birth. Here is the passage, written between 1963 - 1973.
"The storm passed within a hundred yards of our home. When I was ten
years old, I could easily trace its course through the forest trail
which it made. On the north side of its path, the uprooted trees had
fallen toward the south. On the south side, the fallen trees pointed
north. And in the center of the path, the trees had fallen toward the
east. . . . The cyclone came about 1887. It was so
furious that it was an historical landmark in the community for fifty
years. It killed Pete Cagle's wife; and hours later they found his dead
child lodged in the fork of a tree a quarter of a mile from where the
house had been."
Jennifer Cline Romano
Does anyone out there on the list have a current e-mail address for a Phil Cagle? I found some information that he had on Gen Forum last night, and I would really like to contact him, but the e-mail address he has listed is no longer in use.
Thanks for your help,
Jan Kelley bhdjkelley(a)worldnet.att.net
Barbara,
I have no information about your Cagle family. However, I have a relative,
Henry Overton Cagle and his family that moved to Yell and Logan Co. AR ca
1879. Henry remained in that area until ca 1898, some of his family could
have lived there longer? Eventually they moved to TX. If you find a stray
Cagle, It could be some of this bunch.
