Robin, I know this post of yours is an old one. But, I found it tonite and hope to find
you. I am also a decendent of Jesse Thomas Teas and Sarah Jane Cage (they are my 2nd
great grandparents). Sarah Jane Cage being one of the two children born to Benjamin
Franklin Cage, Sr and his 1st wife Mary Ann Cayce-Baker-Cage before Mary died in January
1850 (before the 1850 census was taken).
I am having a very difficult time being able to prove who Benjamin Franklin Cage, Sr
(1814-1887 buried in Blanco Cemetery by his 2nd wife) parents were. According to
Matagorda County Marriage records, Benjamin first married Mary Ann(Cayce)Baker (who was
the widow of D. Davis D. Baker aka found in some trees as Daniel Baker). Mary Ann
Cayce-Baker-Cage reportedly died Jan 10, 1850 in Wharton Texas and was buried on the Old
Cage place (near Clinton). So, in the 1850 Census Benjamin is found (widower by then)
with his two Cage children and his Baker step-children from Mary's 1st marriage. Then
on April 6, 1851 Benjamin remarried to a Nancey Bethia Grier in Wharton, Texas and they
had at least 4 children.
Two nites ago, I found through my
newspaperarchives.com subscription service a copy of a
Galveston News (and posted it on Nancy's (his 2nd wife)
findagrave.com memorial)
stating tha Benjamin was a Veteran of the Florida War and she was a pensioner - her death
announcement states the following:
Excerpt from Galveston Daily News, January 11, 1903, page 2:
"Widow of Florida War Veteran,
Special to the News
Blanco, TX Jan 10: Mrs Nancy B. widow of Benjamin Cage, died of pneumonia this evening at
her residence in this place. Mrs. Cage was a pensioner, her husband having been a veteran
of the Florida War."
ROBIN & ANY OTHERS ON THIS MESSAGE BOARD... ANY HELP WITH FINDING ACTUAL PROOF OF
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN CAGE, SR's parents would be greatly appreciated.
