Subject: Cady Genealogy Books
Thanks for your recent email concerning the puerchase of one of my
Cadu
Genealogy Books.
Yes, I have some of my books left, about 50 of both the 1991 Cady Genealogy
and the 1995 supplement. The 1991 800-page book is $50 plus $3 mailing
fee.
The 1995 200-page spplement is $40 plus $2 mailing fee. If you want
to
purchase one or both of my books, send me your check in the proper amount
and
I will send your book(s) by return mail.
Information about my books:
The 1910 book Cady Genealogy by Orrin Peer Allen was a good book to be
compiled with only an old manual typewriter, but there had been no updates
of
new Cadys for the last eighty years until I published my 1991 book
Cady
Genealogy Revised and Updated. As the name implies, I revised the material
in Allen's book into a more readable outline so a person can trace a family
line backwards or forwards by simply following the outline form and not
having to jump all around in the Allen book as one must do to trace a
family
line. I used about 5,000 names in Allen's books as a starting
platform and
built my revised book on them, developing a network of over 200
contributors
from all over the 48 states, Hawaii and France, all of whom gave me
an
additional 8,000 Cady or Cady related names for my book, making my 1991
800-page book contain 13,051 Cady and/or Cady related names. There are
many
thousands still out there unaccouted for, and I'm gradually
building a
data
base for future publication as I acquire more and more Cady names and
information.
Complicating my search for Cadys was the fact that I upgraded computers
three times from the original, old Commodor 64 that I used to publish my
first book. I am now running a new Inteva, Pentium 2, with 2.99 GB hard
drive
computer with all the bells and whistles (under the supervision of my
son
who
designed it all and carried me along as I upgraded). So I'm set
for good
with hardware. I am using no market software, just developed my own format
for easier and better tracing of family lines.
After I published in 1991, material continued to pour in, and I accumulated
so much that I had to publish a 200-page, 4,000 name book in 1995 to
contain it all. I'm gradually builiding up material for another
supplement
sometime down the road. I am currently toying with the idea of a Y2K
publishing year.
Best wishes to you in your genie searching,
Jim Cady
