Hi Brenda,
The pages I sent you from the Brookfield Vital Records do prove that our
Charles is the son of Stoddard and Abigail Cady. There is someone already who
joined the DAR under Stoddard's service. Her ancestor was the brother of our
Charles (born 1791). There is no other Charles L. Cady who was born in 1791.
The census records for Charles all show he was born about 1791 or 1792.
Plus the tomb stone pictures has the 1791 date also. The DAR has already used
the Brookfield records to prove relationship to Stoddard and the other brother
our Charles. I did get a copy of that application, but I did not make my
own copy, and the one I got from the national headquarters is with my and my
mom's applications right now. I asked that we be given back that application,
our Chapter keeps one set of paperwork and the other set goes to the
headquarters in Wash D.C. From the extensive searching I have done, there is no other
Charles Cady with a birth year of 1791.
One thing I also forgot to mention and to send to you was I have a copy of
the Stafford-Cady bible pages. They were sent to me by a cousin who lives
near me. The original bible no longer exists, but the pages have a lot of
birth, death, marriage in them. Most for the Cady line who married into the
Stafford's here in Michigan. On the very front page is shown our Charles Lewis
Cady and lists his birthdate of 28 Jul 1791.
Also these bible pages show the death date for Sarah Jacobs the second wife
of our Charles, I descend from their line. Sarah Jacobs die in Harrisville,
Alcona Co., Michigan on 03 Aug 1887, but for some reason the death never got
into the Alcona Records. I had the microfilm at my local LDS. For DAR
purposes I still had to write to Alcona Co and send a $10 check, they sent me a
letter back that her death was not recorded, and also returned my check. In
the online Alcona Co database, there is a transcription of Sarah's death in the
local newspaper. However, the DAR will not use any documents that have been
transcribed. I found someone in my area who had the microfilm of the
newspaper. I met him at the local LDS and found the posting of her death and make
a copy of it, including the letter head portion of the paper. this was the
only proof of death I had, but the bible page does show her date of death and
then gives how old she was in years, months and days, so from that we were
able to figure out her birthdate. My cousin took a picture of her tombstone a
number of years ago in Harrisville, unfortunately the sun was shining and you
cannot read the stone. But I did find someone in the area who took a
picture, this past week. She had a death in her family so has not sent it yet, also
she need to have someone help her get it from her digital to the computer so
she can send it. The tomb stone shows that Sarah is the wife of Charles and
shows her death and birthdate.
I only started working on my moms line in November of last year, but as
soon as i found out we had a revolutionary war patriot, I concentrated on
getting all of the proof. I just wish we could find out more of his first family
with the first Sarah!!!!
