No, Sharon, there is not an actual record that says Elizabeth was the d/o Ebenezer and
Prudence. But, as a couisn, I am offended that you refuse to put your money where your
doubts are and do not research Elizabeth. I have done that. I paid many a researcher to
try and find out who she is. I asked you before to contact Berkshire Co HS. You refuse to
do that. Yet, you diss my hard work, and there's.
These are the only facts in evidence we have to connect her to Ebenezer and
Prudence....both Timothy and Ebenezer were bn in Canterbury, Co. Both families migrated to
NY at the same time, and settled in the same area's. Timothy and Elizabeth named their
oldest son, John Ira Puffer....John is the name of Ebenezer's father. They named their
3rd son, David....Ebenezer had a son and a brother named David. They named their youngest
son, Elias...Ebenezer had a son named Elias. Ebenzezer's mother was named
Elizabeth....but he had no daughter named Elizabeth? Yet, his brother's did? And
finally, the will of Mary Puffer, 2nd wife to Timothy and the executor of the will names a
"Waterman Cady's children" as heirs. Three of Ebenezer's son's
married Waterman sister's, d/o of Asa Waterman.....why would Timothy's widow
follow her husband's wishes to include a Waterman Cady's children if Elizabeth
were not related to a Waterman Cady family. Ebenezer's son's who married the
Waterman sister'!
s also had grandson's named Waterman Cady. If you check 1800 census for Timothy and
Mary, you will find them living in Montgomery County and a young family living with
them....I believe it is Waterman Cady. So, who is Waterman Cady? Was he an undocumented
son of David and Zilpha Waterman Cady ? Did T&E raise this child after Zilpha died and
David remarried? No one knows, but the will proves there was a Waterman Cady related to
Elizabeth Cady Puffer.
I challenge you to do your own research on Elizabeth...and if you can come up with better
fact's than I have, share them with us so we can all decide some better conclusions.
Our Elizabeth had her intent to marry Timothy published in
Dalton, there is no proof that the family lived there. But, there was a Elizabeth Cady who
did live there....only she is too old to be our Elizabeth. On the same day, Lydia Cady
also had her intent to marry published in Dalton. A descendant of Lydia told me that the
two girls were cousin's and best friends...but they were not, if I remember rihgt,
close in lineage.
Here is the will proof of Mary Puffer. I leave it up to other's to come to their own
conclusions, and if they differ with mine....please share.
Warm Regards,
June L. Beckwith
