Elizabeth Cady and Dr. Timothy Puffer were married in Shaftsbury, Vt. A record of their
marriage and the birth of their first 5 children are recorded there. It is not proven that
Elizabeth was the d/o Ebenezer and Prudence Palmer Cady. But following the paths of the
families, understanding the family names and the will of Timothy's 2nd wife, Mary, all
lead to Ebenezer and Prudence as Elizabeth's parent's. Elizabeth died in 1794 at
the age of 43. Her headstone has been recorded and can be found in the Mohawk Valley
records books. She is buried in Glenville, Schenectady Co. NY on the old Puffer Farm.
There are over a dozen other's buried with her but they only have markers and no data
on them.
Timothy and Elizabeth named their first child, Ira John or John Ira. His birth record is
recorded as Ira Puffer, but the name was recorded when he was 10 years old. Mentioned in
the will of his first wife's dad, he was called John Irey Puffer. It cannot be proved,
but I believe that Ira was the middle name of Ebenezer Cady. Ebenezer had a son, Elisha
who named a son Ebenezer I. Cady. this is found in the records of the Revolutionary Army
Books. Timoty and Elizabeth named their third son David. Ebenezer had a son, David.
Timothy and Elizabeth's youngest son was named Elias. Probably Timothy Elias or Elias
Timothy. Ebenezer had a son named Elias. In the will of Mary, Dr. Timothy Puffer's 2nd
wife, the trustee failed in locating the children of Waterman Cady, who apparently if they
could have been found would have taken part in the inheritance. We know that the
Waterman's were connected to the son's of Ebenezer. We know that David Cady
married a Zilpha Waterman, and she died yo!
ung, No children have ever been shown for this couple. David Cady next married Irene
Laureny Pratt and they had children. I believe that it is possible that David and Zilpha
had a son and when she died, David gave the child to Timothy and Elizabeth to raise. In
the 1800 Montgomery, NY County census, it shows a young family living with Timothy and
Mary Puffer. the age group does not follow as one of his chilren. I believe this is the
Waterman Cady family. But, it is only speculation. Timothy and Mary's will can be
found in the Seneca Co.NY records. I believe they are on line somewhere, also. Timothy adn
family member's are buried at Southfield Cemetery in Seneca Co. NY. That can be
accessed through NY Genweb.
You may contact me at Beckpuff54(a)aol.com. Timothy and Elizabeth were my Revolutionary War
Grandparent's. My mother is a Puffer.
Warm Regards,
June
Ps.. Ebenezer Cady and Dr. Timothy Puffer were both born in Canterbury, Windham Co. CT. I
believe that Dr. Timothy's parent's, Timothy and Esther Puffer moved to that area
and were neighbors with the Cady's.
