I have another angle, you may have considered, maybe not. Could the name be
a shortened version of another name. Salvatore, maybe?
I was doing research in another surname and found a Giovanni. Not specially
odd, except that the family I was researching were Irish. It was so out of
the ordinary I thought it was a little strange. Giovanni Kelsey just didn't
fit. I told my mother, she said maybe they maned him after a popular singer
of the day. She knew the singers last name and I've forgotten it now.
Also my great grandmothers name on her tombstone is not the name she was
born with. No one in the family ever knew till I did the research on the
family and found them in the census. My mother grew up believing that she
was named after her grandmother. Now I have to find out who she was actually
named for, my daughter was named for her.
Ah, another of lifes little mysteries. It makes Genealogy so much more
interesting!
If you get those dates your search may be easier. Good luck, and if I come
across something that will help you, I'll send it your way.
