I have investigated on the web and compiled everything
that I have on my Hinsdale Raymonds and their kin into
my PAF file, and I have more questions on my doctor
named Cady than ever.
According to this chapter called "Town of Hinsdale"
that some library sent me, on the same page as the
Raymonds there happens to be a section on the Cady
family.
Eleaser Cady allegedly came from Connecticut to
Hinsdale, MA, and had ten children; Chester, Elias,
Eleazer, Dan, Curtis, Harry, John, Mary, Olive and
Betsey. Dan had several children, one of whom, Dr.
Frank Cady, was a widely known and successful
physician and surgeon. The only dates given for this
family are the death of one of Dan's siblings in 1881.
Hinsdale town vital records to 1850 lists marriage of
Betsy and Daniel Cady, July 28, 182[1]. I have
nothing on this Betsy, though she must have been a
grandchild of Amos Raymond the son of William Raymond
(as distinct from my own direct ancestor in the town,
Amos Raymond the grandson of William Raymond).
In Ancestral File at Family Search, I found a similar
family. Eleazer Cady came from Connecticut to
Hinsdale - but he had 8 children. Several names
differ from the list that "Town of Hinsdale" gives for
the Eleazer they discuss. This Eleazer had a son
Daniel, b 1795, puzzlingly in Dalton, like about half
of his children though the family is supposed to have
lived in Hinsdale. He married Elizabeth Raymond on 28
Jul 1821, place not known. Puzzlingly, he died in
Reedsburg, Wisconsin - in 1871. Which is consistent
with a brother dying in 1881.
This couple had six children; Selden Daniel, b 1828;
John Sherman b 1826; Emily Maria b 1831; Franklin
Almiran b 1824; William Curtis b 1822; Julietta b
1833. All born in Hinsdale, MA.
I need not only to find out more about the well known
physician and if there were more remarkable people in
his family (particularly descended from Elizabeth/
Betsey Raymond), as being remarkable ran in the
Raymond family; I also need to know who was Betsey/
Elizabeth Raymond.
It would sure be a big help if anyone happens to have
this information.
Yours,
Dora Smith
