I've "rescued" an old photograph of Jennie HINSDALE. The photograph
appears
to have been taken in the 1880's or 1890's with Jennie likely in her 20's at
the time it was taken. In addition to her name, someone has written "To
Alice INNES" as though the photograph were a gift from Jennie to Alice
originally. I also recovered a photograph of Alice INNES which was taken at
a studio in Batavia, NY, so I'm assuming that this photograph was likely
from that part of NY as well.
Based on limited research I believe that this is a photograph of Jennie
HINSDALE b. 1870's in NY to parents George & Ella HINSDALE. During the 1880
census the family was living in Alexander, NY with records indicating the
following:
George HINSDALE, age 44, born NY, a Farmer, parents born CT
Ella HINSDALE, wife, age 43, born NY, Keeping House, parents born NY
Martha HINSDALE, dau, age 14, born NY, at Home
Jessie HINSDALE, dau, age 12, born NY, at Home
Jennie HINSDALE, dau, age 10, born NY, at Home
Hersa CADY, Mother, age 65, born CT, Boarding, parents born CT
During the 1910 census the family was living in Batavia, NY:
Ellen C. HINSDALE, age 72, widow, 3 children/3 living, born NY, parents born
CT
Jennie A. HINSDALE, dau, age 42, a Stenotyper
Eleanor A. POST, boarder, age 70, 1 child/1 living, born NY, parents born
NY/NJ
Martha W. DOWNING, boarder, age 66, 0 children, born NY, parents born CT/NY
During the 1920 Census of Batavia, NY Jennie was living at the NY State
School for the Blind with records indicating the following:
Jennie A. HINSDALE, age 52, born NY, parents born NY/Ireland
I can't tell if Jennie was an employee of the school or a student.
I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old
photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of
this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
