Regarding Abigail Cady and Anson Cook. I was surprised to hear they were in Palatine,
Cook, Ill in 1837. Can you elaborate more about it?
I have used the census to help trace the movement of A.G. and Abigail Cook.
I found an A.G. Cook in 1830 Florence, Oneida County NY census and A.G. Cook in the 1840,
Lenox, Madison County, NY Census and also A.G. Cook(50) in the 1850, Lenox, Madison
County, NY Census. Also listed in the 1850 census was Abigail (54); Jerome (14),
Angenette (16) Bradford s. (24), Henry (20)--all Cooks.. Also Abraham Crandall(13) is
listed with their household in that 1850 census. In the 1830 and 1840 census, only the
ages of the non-head of household members were listed and the 1830 matches well with the
1850 figures while the 1840 census has more in the household which seems to indicate there
might have been more than one family there. Ages of some of the 1840 entrants match the
1830 and 1850 Cooks.
In the 1860, Troy, Walworth Cty, Wi census, A.G. Cook(60) is listed with Abagail(64),
Henry S. (30) Jerome (29), and Angenett. In the 1870 census, Troy, Walworth Cty, Wi
census they are listed Jerome M. Cook (39) Margery (26) Franklin J (4) Anson G. and
Abigail.
Abigail and Anson Cook are buried in Little Prairie Cemetery, Troy, Walworth County Wi.
According to their tombstones--Abigail died August 6, 1873 aged 78 years 11 mo 22 days;
and Anson died August 6, 1876 aged 77 yr 6 days (dates were inscripted on the tombstones)
Jerome (yes, his middle name is Madison) married Margery Pierce 11/10/1864; Jerome died
11/19/1905 and Margery died 1/10/1897 and both are buried in Little Prairie Cemetery,
Troy, Wisconsin.
Bradford S. Cook married Mariah Sprague in New York around 1851. In the 1860 census they
were in Easton, Ionia, Michigan census; In the 1870 census they were in Campbell, Ionia,
Michigan census; In the 1880 census they were in Calapooia, Douglas, Oregon sensus.
Bradford enlisted in Company M, 6th Calvary Regiment on 20 Sept 1862 in Easton Michigan in
the Civil War. He died 16 November 1894 in Douglas County, Oregon
Henry S. Cook married Kate Morrison July 3, 1861 in Walworth County. According to
cemetery inscriptions of Palymra Hillside Cemetery tombstones in Palymrya,Wi, he died
December 26, 1899. Catherine Morrison died 2/22/1901.
Angenette Cook marrried William Trewyn November 4, 1862. They are buried in Palymyra
Hillside Cemetery also. According to their tombstones, Angenette died in 1909 and her
husband William Trewyn died in 19ll.
I live in Milwaukee Wisconsin and every year my husband and I go to Little Prairie
Cemetery to pay respects to his Cook relatives. This year we also visited Palymyra
Hillside Cemetery for the first time where we saw the tombstones above for Henry Cook and
Angenette Cook Trewyn.
Any further information related to Abigail Cady and Anson G. Cook would be appreciated.
We are particularly trying to find more about Anson G. Cook. According to the census, he
was born in New York. We are trying to find out where he was born and a little about his
parentage. Also, what did the G. stand for?
There was always talk in the Cook family that one of their Cook ancestors married an
Indian. They thought it was Anson's wife: Abigail but according to her Cady ancestry,
that does not appear to be true. Could it be another Cook ancestor's wife? Or was it
just a family myth? If anyone can shed light on this, it would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Margaret Harris
