Here is what I have on my CADY ancestors from the 3 counties in Michigan:
Newell DeWitt Cady was born circa 1835 in NY (Tompkins or Cayuga Co.?). He is enumerated
in Tioga Co., PA in 1850 with his new wife (married within the year) Caroline ?, who was
born in Canada. In 1862 or 1863, he moved to Tuscola Co., MI, and in August, 1864 he
enlisted in Co. C, 1st Michigan Engineers & Mechanics. After being discharged from
the military in 1865, he moved to Shiawassee Co., MI, and then moved to Lapeer Co., MI
circa 1875.
His wife, Caroline, died between 1880 and 1889. I'm not sure where she is buried. He
married Mary Delilah Gorsline in 1889 in Lapeer Co., MI. It appears that they moved to
Sanilac Co., MI and then to Tuscola Co., MI. Mary died in 1906 and was buried in Marlette
Cemetery, Tuscola Co., MI. Between 1912 and 1919, Newell Cady moved back to Lapeer Co.,
MI, where he died in 1920. He is buried in Lum Cemetery in Lapeer Co., MI.
Newell had a sister named Susan. On his second marriage license, he lists his parents as
Asael Cady and Sarah Wilson. I have not been able to find much more information on Asael
Cady. I suspect that he is the son of Jeremiah Cady, Jr. and his wife Tamesin, from
Dalton, Berkshire Co., MA, who later settled in Sempronius, Cayuga Co., NY.
Asa(h)el lived in Sempronius, Cayuga Co., NY in 1834, when Jeremiah, Jr. died.
I would appreciate any additional information that anyone can provide.
Thanks,
Mike
