Hi Brenda and Judy,
I have a lot of information on Charles Lewis Cady, and I am so pleased to
see both of you posting to the list. Brenda I saw one of your prior messages
on one of the message boards I believe it was a week or so ago, I responded to
you but I believe you have a different email address now.
Yes, I also believe that Henry is a half brother to my Ellen. I also
believe that Deborah Cady born 1838 in New York might be a full sister to henry and
a half sister to my Ellen. Deborah appears with my Charles Lewis Cady and
wife Sarah (second wife) in the 1850 census in Union, Fayette, Iowa. At that
time my Ellen was 3 her younger brother David 1 month old. Sarah the wife has
to be the second wife, as she would have been 14 when Deborah was born.
Sarah was 34 in 1850.
Henry appears with his family, and next door to Charles in the 1860 census
in Washington, Van Buren, Iowa. Deborah is gone by then, maybe married???
By 1870 my Charles had moved here to Michigan, Harrisville, Alcona Co. He
appears with wife Sarah, son David now 20 and Margaret Cady age 26, who
appeared as Margaret Beall in another census with Charles. My Ellen had married
Samuel E. Stafford and appears also in Harrisville in 1870 with their infant
daughter Ella my great grandmother.
Also appearing in the 1870 census in Harrisville is James Cady age 55 born
in New York with wife Mary age 37, Mary was keeping house and James was a
farmer. Is this James related to Charles? James was born about 1815 and Charles
1791. Charles was 24 when James was born, is James the son of Charles???
James also appears in the 1880 census in Harrisville as James P. Again New
York birth same as Henry and Deborah.
At the end of the message I'll provide evidence Charles is the son of
Stoddard Brimfield Cady and Abigail Marsh. And also evidence of Charles's death,
but for now I am going to break out the census records on Charles.
Oh, by the way this Charles Lewis Cady born 1791 is NOT the Charles of
Donner Party fame. The 1850, 1860 and 1870 census proves where he was. Charles
Lewis Cady of Calif Donner party fame was born Buffalo, New York, on 19 Sept
1824.
In 1820 Charles Lewis Cady born 1791 was living New York, Oneida, Florence

As you know the 1850 census begins listing all members of household.
I have not charted out yet, if Henry, Deborah and James might be children of
Chares and his first wife. I should do this for 1820 through 1830.
Charles (1791) I believe was part of the family of his mother Abigail Marsh
Cady and hew new husband Ebenezer Wellman in 1810. We know that Charles'
father and Abigail's first husband Stoddard Brimfield Cady died in 1795. I have
the census images for 1810 for Ebenezer and I know his children first his
first wife, she died 1803. but I have not charted that out yet either. I know
who the sibling of Charles (1791) are. That's to be done yet too.
Now, on to proof.
First here you will find the proof of Charles Lewis Cady's death in Michigan
20 sep 1874
makes sense because Sarah appears as a widow in the 1880 census in
Harrisville, Alcona Co., Michigan. Here is the link for Charles' death. Everything
matches except place of birth.

Stoddard Brimfield Cady was a Revolutionary war Patriot, there is all kinds of
evidence on the internet and also in
ancestry.com. If you don't have this I
can provide it. If you are female and a direct line descendant of Stoddard
Brimfield Cady you are eligible for membership in the DAR. You have to be 18
years of age and over. If you are interested in this, please contact me, as

process. Males in direct line are eligible for the SAR.
