I searched for several days for leads from England, Scotland and Ireland. I found nothing
to support Benjamin Johnson Cady was other than a direct descendant of Nicholas Cady of
Watertown, MA. There are many inconsistencies in the records.
1. The church records from part of Killingly were not available. See Windham Co Church
history.
2. BJ and his family reported he and his parents were from NY, PA, OH, IN, and MS. As each
was investigated I found PA was his step-mother, MS was his second wife, IN was were his
youngest were born, OH were his oldest were born and NY was where his step-father lived.
Biographies of his children do not show a consistant answer.
3. BJ was about six when his mother remarried Tom Ashley of NY, his father re-married Mary
Williams of PA. He married Catherine of OH and remarried Harriette of MS.
4. The Johnson middle name was always a problem. Until I found Capt David Cady's
neighbor in Killingly was David Knight. JC named his second son David Knight Cady. It is
known John Cleveland was a neighbor, also. In looking deeper I found a Bejamin Johnson was
also a neighbor. One other son Henry Hutchin was a neighbor and relation. Have not found
Chauncey Goodrich or Horace Harvey's namesake yet.
5. BJ's choices for names for his children also seem to follow some logic. Polly Ann,
Daniel Joseph, Henry Leming, Silas Niles, William Horace, Benjamin Franklin, James Curtis.
(and Pernal). None of these names are on the Leming side, but there are namy on the Cady
in in Connecticut.
6. There is also a Canal connection, which requires more research.
