Sorry... my CADY's are all up in the Michigan area.
But there are alot of them everywhere.
Since it is a church and possible minister you are seeking, then you are in
luck. (churches especially LDS, Cath, Episcapalian, Methodist, Luthern, etc)
keep GREAT records of deaths, births, christenings, etc. Many times the
church was also the local school and or meeting house and sometimes where
town or what gov't meetings they had were held. Since you know the town, find
out what county that town is in. Almost every County has a web site nowadays,
just put in the county name on the web and see whatcha get....Then access
county records and look for death certificate, or whoever the county clerk is
who does that...usually you can email a request, and they will mail you an
official inquirey form for copies etc. and you fill it out, pay your fee and
bingo! From that you will get (usually)the person's place of birth, and birth
parents. Have you thought of phoning the church? You might be surprised at
how old some of S.C. records are!! Many records were burned with the coming
of the yankees but, alot of OLD records are still in S.C.
South Carolina as you may or may not know(are you from there or live there
now? you didn't say...) is one of the oldest settlements in the USA. WAY WAY
back for this country. Also, southerners tend to stay in the area of their
birth more than other places...Try the phone book in that town. (also on the
net) You might be surprised to find folks who recall the name, the minister
and the church. You didn't mention the possible year/s you were looking
for??Is it recently or ???
It helps to put as much as you can in an inquirey on the post it board. Don't
feel like you are boring, or silly to put even family stories or rumors or
anything you have EVER heard about your family and their names or stories or
histories...especially if it is just what the "old timers" used to gab about.
It sometimes leads to THE clue. :-)
I hope I have not bored you either. I never know how advanced anyone is in
their search or how long they have been at it. SO I assume they are just
beginning and I try to give as much info to assist. Next time if you can, put
more details on your requests... :-)
It can surely help us out here looking WITH you... For instance: How long you
have been looking, where you have tried already(library, court house, bible
records, family stories /letters etc)and any names (even if you are
un-sure..like I THINK his wifes' name was Annie etc)what religion they may
have been...where they may have come from, how many kids, how you are related
and any maiden names married into your CADY clan. That is how I found a huge
amount of stuff on my Cady connection. I mentioned I thought my
GG-grandfathers wifes maiden name...and WOW I got an answer from someone who
had researched HER line all the way to the 1700's!! She gave me tons of info
that finally put the piece in for me.
Anyway, Keep looking and remember to keep the inquireys you receive
too...some day some one may write you and ask about a CADY that may be
referring to an email you received previously!!
GOOD LUCK and happiest hunting!!
Best Regards,
Debby Wright
connected via Albert Cady, Ezra Cady to my grandma Ellen Viola Cady who
married into the Torgar Olsen line.
If I can offer any other ideas or help do not hesitate to ask!! The only
silly or dumb question is one that is never asked!! :-)))
