Subject: CADY in MA, CT, Canada
Hi, Suzanne
I saw on rootsweb that you are researching CADY in
Mass. Some years ago I found a picture of an Isabella
WINTON, age about 8 yrs, circa 1870 or so, at an
antique show. I bought it with the intention of
trying to find a descendant to pass it on to, because
it disturbs me to see family heirlooms for sale at
these places. Anyway, it was clearly identified as
Isabella WINTON, North Adams, Mass. I discovered
that, according to a publication, Names Changes in Mass.,
Isabella Maude WINTON changed her name to Maude Winton
CADY sometime around 1888.
According to the Berkshire Hill Magazine, Robert Winton, 80, who came to
North
Adams in 1849 as foreman for Henry Chickering of the Transccript, and
afterwards
purchasing that paper with William Burton, published the same up to
1858 in
the
firm of Burton and Winton, died in Toronto, Canada in January. In
1857 he
married
Miss F.A. CADY, eldest daughter of Alanson CADY of North Adams, and
afterwards
distinguished himself in the publication of the Meriden Chronicle in
Connecticutt,
and as found of the Daily News at St. Johns, Newfoundland.
Robert may have been the father of Isabella Winton (Maude Winton Cady),
though I
am not sure what may have prompted her name change from Winton to
Cady.
Might you have these people in your tree? Please let
me know if you think there might be a connection.
Best regards,
Carol
