I have a Sarah(Sally) Cady m. 1820 at Providence,RI to Alexander McFarland a
Scotch-Irish Presbyterian. Sally was
b. 1800 - Alex b. 1796. Sometime during the late 1820-30'
Sally and Alexander removed to Ohio - not sure exactly but their daughter
Sarah says she was b. in Ohio. However sometime during the 1840 they removed
to Attelboro,Mass then finally Providence where Sally wife of Alex d. 1849.
In the 1880 census Sarah (McFarland) Caswell states that
her father was b. in Ireland and her mother. b. Rhode Island.
The census record is very accurate. Usually Alex is said to have been born
in Scotland which is false and that Sally(daughter)
was b. in RI when actaully she was b. in Ohio. So i think if it
says Sally(the mother) was b. in RI then she was. This brings a real
problem there wasnt too many Cadys in RI at that time. The oldest being
Johnathan Cady the shoemaker - Zebulon and
Shubail and a mysterious Joseph who flies in and out with
an established aging family around 1810. The two David Cadys are enough to
pull ones teeth out. One of these Davids was a mamber of the same church
that Sally and Alex got married at. But that David doesnt have a Sally.
Sally(McFarland) Caswell dau of Sally and Alex - her grandaughter marries an
Alexander. These Alexanders are
descended from the Alexanders of Attleboro and Muddy Branch)Newton) Mass.
They also have a family branch to the
Alexanders at Cumberland,RI.
Zebulon Cady m. a Sally Freeman - her mother may be Jemima Alexander and
father Ralph Freeman and ! oddly in Ohio in 1820 there is a Ralph Freeman on
the census.
I see now that Joseph Cady m. Susanna Alexander. The
Connecticut branch of the Alexanders the name Susanna
is prominent. One of the first Alexanders m. Susanna Sage.
Probably all un-related but i keep on scratching my head.
Twenty years later - still stuck.
