Subject: [CADY-L] Killingly & Steuben Co.
Thanks so much for posting the name of Calvin Cady who I see is associated
with Killingly, Windham County, Connecticut, and Steuben County, New York.
I am going to Connecticut in July to attend a wedding and thought I would
take some extra days for research. Yes, I am still at a brick wall with
my
3rd-greats, August Cady and Helen Lyons.
All the information I have on these elusive folks, including their names,
came through their daughter Sarah, who stated her birthplace as
Southbridge,
MA, 1836; her father's birthplace as CT and her mother's as MA. I was
concentrating on finding August in Windham Co. CT because Sarah's husband,
Lucien Fairfield, came from that area and later lived in Southbridge. I
had
assumed the families knew each other because of the many Cady and
Fairfield
families in those places, and the population seemed to move back and forth
over the state line. The first thing I really know about Sarah from
"outside records" is that she and Lucien are living in South Pultney,
Steuben Co. NY in 1855, a year after their marriage. (There were other
Fairfields in Steuben Co. whom I believe are related to Lucien.) It would
seem logical that Sarah might have been associated with the Cady family
around Troupsburg, Steuben County, but we can't make a match-up. The
recent
post, giving Calvin Cady as living in both places as I believe my family
did, has piqued my interest. An August Cady was born in Killingly in in
1797, which might be the right age for Sarah's father. I wonder if I am
putting too much emphasis on localities?
