In 1820 census, there was one Luther Cady in Saratoga County and one in Ft. Ann,
Washington County, NY.
From what little I have been able to glean, the one in Washington County is probably
the Luther who married Orinda Jenkins, my ancestor, since Orinda was born in Ft. Ann,
Washington County.
In 1830 census Luther and Orinda (Jenkins) Cady were living in Tn. of Ellisburg,
Jefferson County, NY. The age brackets of the family are consistent with the following
children: Edmond 13, Wm. 10, Phebe 2, Lucilda 7, Mary 15, and parents Luther, 42, and
Orinda, 42.
In 1840 census, Luther and Orinda were living in Tn. of Brownville, Jefferson County,
NY. The ages of parents and children are consistent with the 1830 census. It was while
they lived in Tn. of Brownville that their daughter, Lucilda, married my great, great
grandfather, James Chester Douglass, in 1843.
Don't know who the father of my Luther was, possibly the Luther Cady who was born
in Killingsly, CT, now that you say he was married three times, but still have no
documentation and can not find a death certificate for him. His wife, Orinda, died in
Strongsville, OH in 1873.
If you have any information that would fit in with what I have or can add any
information regarding Luther Cady in Washington County, I would love to hear from you.
